LA GRANDE, Ore. – No.14 Eastern Oregon softball continued their Cascade Collegiate Conference play, sweeping Corban (Ore.) in a doubleheader on Saturday at Peggy Anderson Field. The Mountaineers grabbed another set of run rule wins, 14-4 in game one before securing an 18-2 victory in game two.
Game 1: Eastern Oregon 14, Corban 4 (5 Innings)
The Mountaineers wasted no time in taking control of the first game, with a dominant 14-4 win over Corban. EOU raced to a 2-0 lead in the first inning thanks to a pair of unearned runs. The Mounties then exploded for seven runs in the second, highlighted by
Madelyn Durham's two-RBI double and
Hannah Tyree's two-RBI single.
Kelly Monaghan and
Hope Burke both added runs with triples, pushing the Mountaineers to a 9-0 advantage.
Corban answered with four runs in the third, with Peyton Foreman delivering a two-RBI double and Leata Senio adding an RBI single, cutting the deficit to 9-4. However, Eastern Oregon closed out the game with five runs in the fourth, sealed by Raygun Klippert's two-RBI single and Durham's two-RBI single.
Kylie Parsons (2.2 IP, 3 H, 4 R, 2 ER, 3 BB, 3 K) earned the win for the Mountaineers. Durham led the way for EOU with a 2-for-3 performance, driving in four RBIs, while Klippert went 1-for-4 with three RBIs.
Game 2: Eastern Oregon 18, Corban 2 (5 Innings)
Eastern scored 18 runs on 17 hits to cruise to an 18-2 victory. The Mountaineers erupted for nine runs in the first inning, with
Hope Burke's grand slam providing the highlight.
Katelynn Evans added a two-RBI single, and Klippert's RBI single pushed the Mounties to a 9-0 lead.
Corban managed to score two runs in the second, with Mckenna Hanson driving in both runs with a single, cutting the score to 9-2. However, Eastern Oregon answered with six more runs in the bottom of the inning, including two-RBI doubles from Monaghan and Madison Olson, pushing the lead to 15-2.
Natalie Dimitrov picked up the win for the Mountaineers, allowing just two runs on three hits in two innings. Taylor Brewer shut down Corban in relief, striking out six in three perfect innings.
At the plate, Evans went 3-for-3 with three RBIs, while Durham went 2-for-2 with three RBIs. Burke's grand slam led to a four-RBI performance, while Monaghan added three hits and two RBIs.
Eastern Oregon looks forward to another weekend at home as they host University of British Columbia on Friday March 14th first pitch set for 2 p.m. at Peggy Anderson Field.
