No. 14 Eastern Oregon Dominates Corban with Pair of Run-Rule Wins

LA GRANDE, Ore. – No. 14-ranked Eastern Oregon University softball opened its home schedule in dominant fashion Friday afternoon, cruising to two run-rule victories over Corban University at Peggy Anderson Field. The Mounties won game one by a score of 10-0 and game two by a score of 10-1, both ending in five innings.

GAME ONE

The Mountaineers set the tone early, scoring three runs in the first inning and never looking back. Hannah Tyree sparked the offense with a two-run double down the left-field line, driving in Madelyn Durham and Raygun Klippert. Tyree later came around to score on an RBI single by Emily Barry, putting EOU ahead 3-0.

Eastern Oregon continued to pile on the runs, adding one in the second before a three-run third inning broke the game open. Barry scored on a wild pitch, Klippert drove in another run on a groundout, and the Mounties capitalized on a Corban miscue to push the lead to 7-0.

The offensive explosion continued in the fourth with three more runs. Kelly Monaghan delivered an RBI single, Klippert notched another run-scoring hit, and Katelynn Evans added an RBI fielder's choice, capping the scoring at 10-0.

Meanwhile, EOU's pitching and defense were flawless. Kylie Parsons (2-0) dominated in the circle, efficiently working through the Corban lineup while tossing a complete-game shutout. She allowed just two hits and struck out two across five innings.

The Mountaineers collected 10 hits in the victory, led by Klippert's 3-for-4 performance with three RBIs. Barry, Tyree, and Monaghan each added RBIs, while Hope Burke crossed the plate three times.

Corban struggled to generate offense, managing just two hits in the contest. Pitcher Miranda Scovil (0-5) took the loss, allowing seven runs—five earned—over 2.1 innings of work.

GAME TWO

The Mountaineers (5-3, 4-1 CCC) wasted no time jumping on the Warriors, plating five runs in the first inning. Emily Barry opened the scoring with a sacrifice fly, bringing in Raygun Klippert. Moments later, Madison Olson launched a three-run homer to left field, putting EOU in firm control early. A Corban fielding error allowed another run to cross, making it 5-0 after one frame.

EOU continued to apply pressure, adding a run in the second on Barry's fielder's choice RBI and tacking on two more in the third. Katelynn Evans bunted for an RBI single before Klippert scored on a wild pitch, stretching the lead to 8-0.

Olivia Brown put the finishing touch on the Mounties' offensive explosion with a two-run homer in the fourth, extending the margin to 10-0. Corban (1-14, 1-4 CCC) managed its lone run in the fifth on an RBI double by Regan McDaniel, but it wasn't enough to prevent another run-rule victory for EOU.

Eastern Oregon's pitching staff remained stellar. Natalie Dimitrov (1-1) earned the win, tossing 3.1 scoreless innings while allowing just two hits and striking out three. Camille Schmitz closed out the game, allowing one run on two hits over 1.2 innings while striking out two.

The Mountaineers posted seven hits, with Olson, Barry, and Brown each driving in multiple runs. Evans added an RBI and scored twice.

Corban's offense struggled once again, managing just four hits in the contest. Starting pitcher Kate Banks (1-2) took the loss, surrendering seven earned runs over 2.1 innings.

The Mountaineers will return to the field tomorrow afternoon, once again facing the Warriors at 12 p.m. and 2 p.m. PT.
