KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. – No. 13 Eastern Oregon University secured a 2-1 Cascade Collegiate Conference series victory over No. 5 Oregon Tech, splitting Saturday's doubleheader at Stilwell Stadium. The Mountaineers claimed a thrilling 9-8 win in game one before falling 5-1 in game two. The second game was a non-conference contest and did not count toward the CCC standings.
Game One: No. 13 Eastern Oregon 9, No. 5 Oregon Tech 8 (8 Innings)
No. 13 Eastern Oregon University softball secured a thrilling 9-8 victory over No. 5 Oregon Tech in the first game of Saturday's doubleheader at Stilwell Stadium. The Mountaineers built an early lead and held off a late rally from the Owls to improve to 2-1 in Cascade Collegiate Conference play.
Eastern Oregon struck first, plating two runs in the opening frame. Madelyn Durham doubled to left-center to drive in Katelynn Evans, and Emily Barry followed with an RBI groundout to give EOU a 2-0 lead. The Mountaineers added two more in the third on a sacrifice groundout from Hannah Tyree and an RBI double by Barry.
EOU broke the game open in the fifth, scoring four runs to push the lead to 8-0. Barry continued her strong performance with an RBI single, Madison Olson added a two-run double, and Raygun Klippert capped off the inning with an RBI single.
Oregon Tech battled back, scoring twice in the fifth before adding two more in the sixth to make it 8-4. The Owls then staged a four-run rally in the seventh, highlighted by a two-run single from Jayce Seavert, tying the game at 8-8.
In extra innings, the Mountaineers responded as Barry drew a bases-loaded walk to bring in the go-ahead run in the top of the eighth. Camille Schmitz then shut the door in the bottom half, stranding the tying run at third to earn the save.
Barry led EOU at the plate, going 2-for-4 with four RBIs. Durham added a 2-for-4 performance with an RBI and three runs scored, while Olson drove in two runs with a double.
On the mound, Kylie Parsons started and went five innings, allowing three runs (two earned) on eight hits. Hannah Ebner (2-0) picked up the win in relief, while Schmitz recorded her first save of the season.
Game Two: No. 5 Oregon Tech 5, No. 13 Eastern Oregon 1
No. 5 Oregon Tech responded with a 5-1 win over No. 13 Eastern Oregon University in the second game of Saturday's doubleheader at Stilwell Stadium. A four-run surge in the middle innings propelled the Owls to victory even Saturday's doubleheader.
Eastern Oregon opened the scoring in the first inning. Klippert led off with a single and came around to score on an RBI single by Barry, giving the Mountaineers an early 1-0 lead.
Oregon Tech answered in the second inning, tying the game on a bases-loaded walk by Nita Cook. The Owls took the lead in the fourth when Cook delivered a two-run single to right-center, bringing in Malia Mick and Marla Goodspeed. They extended their lead to 5-1 in the fifth on a solo home run from Addison Kachnik and an RBI fielder's choice by Sawyer Stenson.
EOU struggled offensively, managing just three hits in the contest. Klippert led the way, going 2-for-4 with a run scored, while Barry recorded the only RBI for the Mountaineers.
On the mound, Camille Schmitz (0-1) took the loss for EOU, allowing four runs (two earned) on eight hits over 4.1 innings. Macao Jackson provided 1.2 innings of relief, giving up one run.
For Oregon Tech, Carli Moore (2-1) dominated in relief, tossing 6.2 scoreless innings while allowing just one hit and striking out six. Jenna Gorden started but lasted only 0.1 innings, giving up a run on two hits.
Eastern Oregon moves to 3-3 overall and 2-1 in CCC play, while Oregon Tech sits at 9-3 overall and 1-2 in conference.
