LA GRANDE, Ore. – Eastern Oregon University secured a 94-85 victory over the Northwest Eagles in Cascade Collegiate Conference action on Friday night at Quinn Coliseum.
The Mountaineers started strong, shooting an impressive 60.3% from the field, including 64.3% from beyond the arc. EOU was led by Logan Orchard, who scored 23 points on 8-of-9 shooting, including a perfect 5-for-5 from the free-throw line. Garrett Hawkes contributed 16 points, and TJ Doman added 13.
The Eagles were led by Nash Wobrock, who finished with 19 points, including a pair of three-pointers. Filip Mugosa and Ethan Martin each chipped in 16 points. The Eagles managed to hit 38.2% of their three-point attempts and kept the game competitive until the final minutes.
After taking a narrow 42-38 lead into halftime, EOU extended its advantage in the second half, outscoring Northwest 52-47. Key contributions came from the bench, where the Mountaineers outscored the Eagles 60-29.
The Mountaineers controlled the paint, finishing with 38 points in the lane compared to Northwest's 32, and capitalized on turnovers, outscoring the Eagles 10-5 in points off turnovers. EOU also took advantage of its free-throw opportunities, finishing 75% from the line.
Eastern Oregon looks ahead to tomorrow, where they will honor their seniors during the break between the women's game and their own. The Mountaineers will face the Geoducks of The Evergreen State College at 5 p.m. in Quinn Coliseum.
