ASHLAND, Ore. – Eastern Oregon women's basketball gave the undefeated and No. 4-ranked Southern Oregon Raiders all they could handle before falling 67-55 in Cascade Collegiate Conference action at Lithia Motors Pavilion.
The Mountaineers (12-6, 8-5 CCC) battled throughout the game, leading at halftime and staying within striking distance until a late Southern Oregon surge secured the win. The Raiders (18-0, 12-0 CCC) extended their perfect season with a strong second-half performance, outscoring the Mountaineers 21-12 in the final quarter.
Eastern Oregon was led by Kelsie Siegner, who recorded a team-high 18 points, seven rebounds, three blocks, and three steals. Brie Holecek added 11 points, eight rebounds, and four assists, while Kaiea Waiwaiole contributed eight points and six boards.
Southern Oregon was efficient throughout the contest, shooting 50% from the field compared to EOU's 33.9%. Morgan Baird paced the Raiders with 16 points and five rebounds, while Meghan McIntyre chipped in 14 points and three steals.
The Mountaineers controlled the boards with a 37-30 rebounding advantage, but Southern Oregon's strong shooting and 40 points in the paint proved too much to overcome.
Eastern Oregon will look to bounce back tomorrow afternoon when they travel to Klamath Falls to face the Oregon Tech Owls at 3:00 p.m.
