LA GRANDE, Ore. – The Eastern Oregon University men's soccer team played to a 1-1 draw against Northwest University in a Cascade Collegiate Conference matchup on Saturday.
EOU took an early lead in the 27th minute when midfielder Edgar Romero Perez converted a penalty kick. The Mountaineers held onto that advantage until the final minutes when forward Matthew Ludlow equalized for Northwest, finishing a cross from Damian Santos to tie the game.
The Mounties controlled much of the first half, outshooting the Eagles 8-3, with forward Angel Sandoval registering two shots on goal. Eastern Oregon's pressure resulted in five total shots on target, but Northwest goalkeeper Michael Kot stood firm, making four saves across 90 minutes to keep the Eagles in the game.
Eastern Oregon goalkeeper Kevin Pullara faced eight shots from the Eagles, saving one, while Ludlow's strike was the only one to beat him.
Fouls piled up throughout the physical contest, with Northwest committing 16 to Eastern Oregon's eight. Both sides saw a flurry of yellow cards, including three for Northwest within an eight-minute span in the second half.
The Mountaineers earned three corner kicks compared to Northwest's five, but neither team was able to capitalize on set pieces.
Eastern Oregon will look to continue its strong start to conference play as they prepare for their next match against Walla Walla on Friday, with kickoff set for 2 p.m.
