LA GRANDE, Ore. – Eastern Oregon University women's soccer kicked off their conference schedule in dominant fashion, securing a 5-0 victory over The Evergreen State College on Friday afternoon at Community Stadium.
The Mountaineers wasted no time taking control of the match, with
Grace Schafer opening the scoring in the 31st minute off an assist from
Gracie Hoover. EOU doubled their lead just before halftime when Hoover found the net in the 41st minute, assisted by
Ashley Smith.
Eastern Oregon kept up the pressure in the second half, extending their lead to 3-0 in the 51st minute through a
Brooke Snyder goal, set up by
Megan Gustafson. Smith then added two more goals for the Mounties in the 68th and 77th minutes, with
Karina DeYoung providing the assist on the final goal to complete the 5-0 rout.
The Mountaineers' defense stifled Evergreen's attack, limiting them to just two shots, neither of which were on target. Goalkeepers
Hannah Krantz and
Madeline Barker shared the clean sheet, each playing a half. Evergreen's Anna Varela made two saves, but it wasn't enough to stop EOU's relentless offense.
