LA GRANDE, Ore. – Eastern Oregon University women's soccer suffered its second loss of the weekend Saturday evening, falling 1-0 to Carroll College at Community Stadium.
Carroll struck early after a Mountaineer foul on a corner kick resulted in a penalty kick. Rachel McAllister converted the opportunity, placing her shot in the right corner of the net to give the Saints a 1-0 lead just 14 minutes into the match. Eastern Oregon looked to respond four minutes later when
Samantha Jones put a shot on target, forcing Carroll goalkeeper Maria Ackerman to make her first save of the evening. The Mountaineers continued to apply offensive pressure, with
Holly Dorhauer and
Ava Henkemeyer sending shots wide before
Makenna Moore fired a shot high. Ackerman turned aside Eastern's attempts to preserve Carroll's one-goal advantage heading into halftime.
The Mountaineers came out aggressively after the break, earning multiple fouls before
Erin Kelley sent a shot high. Carroll threatened to extend its lead when McAllister put another shot on goal, but Eastern Oregon goalkeeper
Elysa Morse made the save to keep the Mountaineers within reach. The physical play continued as both teams exchanged fouls, and Morse recorded another save on a Carroll attempt to keep the deficit at one. Eastern Oregon pressed for an equalizer in the closing minutes, generating chances through
Samantha Gjersvold, Kelley,
Gracie Rainsberry and
Kenzie Snell. However, Carroll's defense held firm, recording key blocks while Ackerman made the necessary save to preserve the shutout. The Saints maintained their 1-0 lead through the final whistle, handing the Mountaineers their second loss of the weekend.
Despite the result, Eastern Oregon held a 12-6 advantage in total shots, while both teams finished with four shots on goal. Ackerman recorded four saves for Carroll, while Morse finished with three for the Mountaineers.
With the loss, Eastern Oregon falls to 8-4-1 overall and 4-3 in Cascade Collegiate Conference play. Carroll improves to 2-3-6 overall and 1-1-4 in conference action.
The Mountaineers return to action Friday, October 16, traveling to Ashland, Oregon, to face Southern Oregon University. Kickoff is scheduled for 12 p.m. PT.
