Eastern Oregon Sweeps Monday's Doubleheader in Redding

REDDING, Calif. - Eastern Oregon's baseball team secured a sweep of Monday's doubleheader, outscoring Simpson University 11-10 and 8-2 across both games.

GAME 1
The Mountaineers overcame a four-run deficit in the first game, securing an 11-10 victory over Simpson in the doubleheader opener. The ninth inning saw a climactic moment when Matthew Carlson, in a pinch-hit appearance, singled to bring in the winning run as Rogelio Gonzales crossed home plate. This walk-off hit sealed the narrow 11-10 victory in a matchup filled with intense moments, lead changes, and a total of 21 runs and 21 hits.

Eastern Oregon's Tyler Balkenbush and Chase Nett each contributed a double, while Freitas made a significant impact with his crucial 3-run triple in the 8th inning. Mario Landeros added to the offensive display with a home run.

Callan Vreim (1-0) secured the win with a strong performance over 2.1 innings, allowing no hits or runs while striking out four batters. Zakaia Michaels closed the game with a save during his 0.1 inning stint, not conceding any hits or runs and striking out one batter. 

Simpson saw notable performances from Dominic Folks, who delivered a solid 2 for 4 record with 3 RBIs. Jaydon Tomas started on the mound for the Red Hawks, pitching 3 innings and allowing 4 runs.

GAME 2
Eastern Oregon continued their success in the second game with an 8-2 victory over Simpson. The Mounties' scoring ramped up in the fifth inning, with Carlson's RBI single and Nett's 2-run double contributing to a 5-run surge. Freitas and Easton Lasich added to the offensive display with an RBI each.

Youhyeon Choi had an impressive performance, going 3-for-4 with a double, an RBI, and scoring twice. Freitas maintained his momentum from the first game, going 2-for-4 with an RBI and two runs.

On the mound, freshman Tyler Rebsom (1-0) secured a notable win in relief, delivering a stellar collegiate debut with no runs allowed, no walks, and 6 strikeouts through 4 innings.

Nathan Palacioz was credited with the loss for the Redhawks, giving up 4 hits and 5 runs throughout his 5 innings played.
