Mounties Remain at No. 24 Nationally

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The latest edition of the NAIA Softball Coaches' Top 25 Poll was released Wednesday by the national office. Eastern Oregon remained steady, staying at No. 24 in the national poll.

Since the last ranking, EOU has played three conference series for 10 total games, going 7-3 in those games. The first series the Mountaineers matched up with Corban University. Eastern took three out of four games on the road over the Warriors on the road before a mid week matchup with now No. 6 ranked College of Idaho. The Yotes took both games over the Mounties. Eastern bounced back in their last weekend of Cascade Collegiate conference play with a four game sweep over the Knights of Warner Pacific University to finish CCC play with a 19-11 record earning them a spot in the conference tournament as a four seed.

Poll Methodology

  • The poll was voted upon by a panel of head coaches representing each of the conferences and the Continental Athletic Conference (Independents).

  • The Top 25 is determined by a points system based on how each voter ranks the best teams. A team receives 30 points for each first-place vote, 29 for second-place and so on through the list.

  • The highest and lowest ranking for each team (a non-rating is considered a low rating) is removed and the team's ranking will be recalculated with an additional point added to each team for every ballot (including discounted ballots) that the teams appear on.

  • Teams that receive only one point on the ballot are not considered "receiving votes"

  • The frequency of the polls is bi-weekly. This policy was approved by the National Administrative Council (NAC) prior to the 2016-17 academic season. This change allows raters the opportunity to consider a larger body of work between rating periods.

Eastern Oregon will be back in action Friday, May. 5 as they travel to Klamath Falls, Ore. to take on the Thunderbirds of the British of Columbia University in the opening round of the CCC tournament. Game one is set to start at 9 a.m.
