EOU Introduces Josh Goodman as Next Head Women’s Soccer Coach

LA GRANDE, Ore. - Eastern Oregon University and Athletic Director, Anji Weissenfluh, are pleased to announce the hiring of Josh Goodman as the new head women's soccer coach for the Mounties.

"After conducting a national search, the committee kept circling back to what we were looking for in a coach - a person who has a vast tactical knowledge of the game, has strong recruiting ties in the Pacific Northwest, someone who meets the high standards of our department, and a coach who will develop all aspects of student-athletes," Athletic Director Anji Weissenfluh said. "With that, we realized that person we were looking for was right at our fingertips. I am excited to announce Josh Goodman as our next head women's soccer coach."

Goodman will take over the program after being an assistant for the last four years for women's soccer. For the first three of those four years he was also an assistant on the men's team.

"This opportunity feels amazing," Goodman said. "I've been on the staff for four years and I played here before that, so it means a lot to me to start my head coaching career here."

Goodman will take charge of program that has built a strong foundation over his time as an assistant. Since 2019 EOU Women's Soccer has went a combined 48-10-8 overall winning a CCC Tournament Championship in 2019. In his four years as an assistant the women's soccer program made it to the national tournament twice as well.

"My vision for the program is to get back to winning conference titles and competing on the biggest stage," Goodman said. "It's going to take a lot of hard work and consistency."

When it comes to style of play, Goodman stressed the importance of resiliency. He expects his team to play an exciting brand of soccer that is fun to watch.

"We're going be a team that has absolutely no quit," Goodman said. "We are going to be disciplined in the way we go about our business and we're going to put the ball down and play some good soccer."

Prior to joining the coaching staff at EOU, Goodman had a successful collegiate career. He played two seasons at Victor Valley College where he was a two-time all-conference player and conference player of the year. He then joined the Mounties in 2017 where he earned a second-team all-conference nod and helped the team qualify for the conference tournament for the first time in program history.

"Josh has been part of our women's soccer coaching staff that helped build our program to one that has been successful at both the conference and national levels," Weissenfluh said. "Josh is incredibly hard working and I guarantee that he will be one of the hardest working coaches in the conference. I am excited to watch Josh grow as a head coach."
