LA GRANDE, Ore. - Eastern Oregon Women's Wrestling was back in action Sunday as they hosted the Mountaineer Open. Ultimately, three Mountaineers emerged as champions in their respective weight categories.
Stephanie Blankenship claimed the top spot in the 109-pound division after a dominant performance, securing a perfect 3-0 record for the day. She started off her day with a 10-0 technical fall victory over Big Bend Community College's Natalie Johnson. In her next match, she secured a victory by pin 4 minutes and 38 seconds into the match over Gray Harbor College's Aliya Hammons. Blankenship finished out her day in the championship match with a 10-0 technical fall victory over The Evergreen State College's Alexia Fabian.
Anna Rodriguez took the top spot in the 130-pound division after a 3-0 day on the mat. Rodriguez started off her day with a victory by pin just one minute and 30 seconds into the match over Big Bend Community College's Emily Barragan. In her next match, she secured another victory by pin, this time one minute and 55 seconds into the match over Gray Harbor College's Gloria Hudson. Rodriguez locked in her position at the top spot with a dominant 10-0 technical fall victory over The Evergreen State College's Erica Grant.
The final Mountie to claim top spot in the Mountaineer Open was
Liv Wieber in the 155-pound division after finishing 3-0 on the day. Wieber kicked off her day with a victory by pin in one minute and 30 seconds of Washington State University's Petra Bernsten. In her next match, she secured a 10-0 technical fall victory over Laura Meyers. To cap off her first place finish, Wieber won by 6-1 decision over The Evergreen State College's Flor Parke Borrero.
