INDIANAPOLIS – The College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) announced its 2022 Academic All‐District® Softball Team, which recognizes the nation's top student‐athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. No. 15 Eastern Oregon University had a pair of student-athletes make the list.
Garnering the prestigious academic honor was
Kayla Berg and
Taylor Dow. The senior duo were both selected to the First Team as EOU and are now eligible for Academic All-America® status. Berg was selected as an outfielder, while Dow was selected as a Designated Player. The two selections are also the first CoSIDA Academic All-District® selections under head coach
Nicole Christian.
To be nominated, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) at his/her current institution. The cumulative grade-point average may NOT be rounded up to 3.30. The CoSIDA Academic All‐America® program separately recognizes softball honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.
Berg picked up her second academic award of the 2022 season as she was named to the Academic All-CCC Team earlier this spring. The senior sports a 3.33 cumulative GPA and is majoring in Health & Human Performance. She has been a staple in the Mountaineers lineup in what has been a historical season for the team. She has played in all 56 games this season and been tabbed a starter in 53. She is tied for the team lead in batting average at .316 and is the team leader in doubles smacked with 19. She also leads the way in triples with three and is tied for third in home runs with four. Berg has tallied 32 RBI this season, scored 28 runs and is slugging .559 entering the NAIA Tournament. Her 32 RBI is second most on the team and her 19 doubles is second highest in the CCC. For Berg, this is her first career CoSIDA award.
Dow is no stranger to academic awards as she was named to the CCC All-Academic Team in 2021 and in 2022. She boasts a 3.98 cumulative GPA and is majoring in Business Administration. On the field, Dow has appeared in 53 games and started 51. She has been the primary Designated Player for the Mounties this year and is batting .272 entering the NAIA postseason. She has scored 19 runs this season to go along with 19 RBI. She has also knocked five doubles and drawn 11 walks. For Dow, this is her first career CoSIDA award.
First‐team Academic All‐District® honorees advance to the CoSIDA Academic All‐America® ballot. First‐, second‐ and third‐team Academic All‐America® honorees will be announced in June.
