Eastern Plays Host to Corban in Weekend Home Series

LA GRANDE, Ore. – Mountaineers Softball is back on their home field this weekend as the team will look to extend their six game winning streak. Eastern Oregon enters the weekend in the top-three of the league standings and will look to stay there.

First Pitch
• The Mountaineers (27-10, 14-4 CCC) are coming off a 2-0 sweep at then No. 5 College of Idaho and a 4-0 sweep against the Warner Pacific Knights.
• Eastern Oregon's six-game winning streak is currently the team's second longest of the season.
• The Mounties four-game series this weekend will be their third bout at home in 2022. They are 4-2 this season.
• Following the four-game homestand this weekend, EOU will be back on the road next weekend as they approach the final three weeks of the regular season.

Story Lines
• The Mountaineers have eclipsed 27 wins and are guaranteed a winning record for the regular season for the first time since 2018.
• Eastern has won each of their last six games, all on the road, and it is the team's second longest winnings streak of the season. 
• Entering this weekend's series, the Warriors have won each of the last four match-ups against EOU.
• In the latest NAIA Top-25 Coaches' Poll, the Mounties continue to receive votes at what would be 35th.

Quick Hits
Last Time Out

• EOU got its revenge on longtime rival College of Idaho this past Tuesday, sweeping the Yotes on their home field to salvage a 2-2 series split.
• In the first game, the two squads needed eight innings again to determine a winner. EOU walked away with the 4-0 win thanks to an error by C of I and a three-run homer by Madison Stateler.
• In game two, the Mounties grabbed a 9-3 lead entering the seventh and C of I nearly staged a late rally. The Yotes scored five runs in the frame to get within one, 9-8, before EOU closed out the game.
• Over the weekend, Eastern dispatched the Warner Pacific Knights with a 4-0 sweep. In game one, Amanda Smith threw her first career no hitter in the team's 11-0 win in five innings. In game two, the Mounties scored a 4-2 win to go 2-0.
• Day two saw Eastern win a pair of close games and they ultimately made a comeback in the series finale. They won 3-1 in game one and in game two, the team scored five runs in the seventh to comeback from a 7-3 deficit for the 8-7win.

CCC Pitcher of the Week
• For her efforts over the past week in the circle, Amanda Smith was named the CCC Pitcher of the Week. In three starts last week, she went 2-1 and posted a 0.35 ERA.
• In the three games, Smith was superb, fanning 19 batters and giving up just eight hits. In the series opener vs. Warner Pacific, she threw her first career no-hitter.

Series History vs. Corban
• Since 2006, the Warriors own a 39-13 record over the Mountaineers and are 16-7 against them in true road games.
• The Mountaineers dropped four of five games last season against the Warriors. EOU fell 3-1 in the team's road series at Corban in the regular season and dropped their opening game of the CCC Tournament to the Warriors.
• Eastern last won at least one home game against Corban back in 2017. The last time EOU won a home series over Corban was in 2007.

A Season for the Record Books 
• The Mountaineers 27 wins this season is most since the team won 28 back in 2017.
• In CCC play, EOU has swept four series, 3-0, and has won 4-0 overall in all four.
• The Mountaineers tied their 11-game winning streak from 2018, after winning the series opener over SOU.

Comin' Out Swingin'
• Two players are batting over .300 in Kayla Berg (.340) and Madison Stateler (.307).
Hannah Tyree and Berg lead the way in RBI with 21. Caitlin Crist and Stateler are tied for third with 20, respectively.
• Berg leads the way in doubles hit with 14, while Tyree is second behind her with 13. 
• Crist has scored the most runs with 30 and leads the way in homers hit with five.
Karsyn Zaragoza has drawn a team-high 17 walks. Second in walks with 13 is Grace Gaither with 14.

Swing and a Miss!
• Through 37 games, the Mounties have fanned 166 batters and allowed just 55 walks.
• Eastern has a 2.52 team ERA to start the year and is holding batters to a .248 average.
Amanda Smith leads the team in strikeouts with 89 and is 13-3 on the year with a 1.62 ERA.
• Smith has pitched 13 complete games and earned three saves.
Mckenna Stallings is second in strikeouts with 37 and is 6-4 with a 2.69 ERA.
Abby Giles has an ERA of 1.83 to sit second on the team in 12 games played and 38.1 innings pitched.
Kayla Berg is third strikeouts with 21 in 22.2 innings pitched.

Stat Leaders (As of April 7)
• The Mounties rank second in the CCC in team ERA at 2.51.
• Eastern is fourth in the league in fielding percentage at .958. 
Amanda Smith is second in ERA at 1.62, while Abby Giles is fourth at 1.81.
Kayla Berg ranks second in doubles hit with 14, while Hannah Tyree is second with 13.
Caitlin Crist is fourth in stolen bases with 18 on 20 attempts.
• Smith is third in the CCC in strikeouts with 89. She is second in wins with 13.
• Smith also ranks second in shutouts with five and tied for second in saves with three.
Karsyn Zaragoza is seventh in walks drawn with 17. Grace Gaither is eighth with 16.
• Berg also ranks tied for fourth in the CCC in triples hit with three. 

Scouting the Warriors
• Corban enters the weekend with a 15-23 overall record and is 9-10 in league play. The Warriors own a 11-13 record in true road games.
• As a team, the Warriors are batting .271 and have tallied 261 hits. They have scored 175 runs, racked up 148 RBI and hit 21 home runs.
• In the circle, Corban has a 5.08 team ERA. They have struck out 106 batters, but have surrendered 150 walks. They have given up 20 homers this season.
• Defensively, the Warriors have a .944 fielding percentage. They have 62 errors on the year but have turned 15 double plays so far.
• Madison Wylie leads the bats with a .307 average. She has 12 RBI and scored 16 runs. She has hit three home runs and has drawn 12 walks.
• Kaycee Arase is second in batting average at .301. She leads the way in runs scored with 21 and has 11 RBI to go along with three home runs. She is the leader in stolen bases at 12-14.
• Taylor Beasley and Paia'ala Wilcox-Molina are tied for the team lead in RBI with 18 apiece. Beasley has also hit three homers and scored 18 runs.
• Holly Gonzales is the team's ace with 62 strikeouts in 23 games played. She is 6-8 on the year and sports a 2.58 ERA. She has pitched nine complete games and has one save.
• Alise Olson is second in strikeouts with 27. She is 5-7 on the year and has a 6.70 ERA to go along with three complete games pitched.

Up Next
• The Mountaineers will be on the road next weekend for a four-game series at Northwest University, April 15-16. First pitch is set for 11 a.m., with game two to follow at 1 p.m. both days.
