GREAT FALLS, Mont.- Eastern Oregon was back in action Saturday as they traveled to Great Falls, Mont. to take on the University of Providence. It was a tough battle on the mat but the Argos ultimately pulled away and took the duel at a score of 26-20 over the Mountaineers.
Eastern fell behind 12-0 early after a forfeit in the 101 pound weight class, a tough 2-1 decision loss in the 109 pound weight class and 12-0 technical fall in the 116 pound weight class. It was Paige Chafin who got the Mounties on the board first after she was able to take her 123 pound match by pin. This pin by Chafin sparked a string of pins for the Mountaineers as Kaylee Moore followed with a pin over the Argos Gabbriella Parini. Then it was Erin Redford's turn as she was able to pin #2 ranked wrestler in the 136 pound weight class Paige Respicio. After the three consecutive pins the Mounties led 15-12. The Argos would bounce back scoring five more points taking the score to 17-15 after Argo Waipuilani Estrella-Beauchamp won by pin in the 143 pound weight class. Providence would tack on four more points after taking the 155 pound match by 10-0 technical fall, taking the score to 21-15. Eastern's Olivia Robinson rounded out the duel with a pin taking the score to 21-20 and a forfeit in the 191 pound weight class led to the 26-20 final.
EOU will be back in action Sunday, Jan. 8 as they travel to McMinnville, Ore to compete in the Linfield Open.
