Game Recap: Women's Soccer | | EOU Athletics

Mountaineers Rout Argos at Home

LA GRANDE, Ore. – No. 24 Eastern Oregon University Women's Soccer made things look easy Friday night at home as the team cruised to a 6-0 win inside Community Stadium over the University of Providence. With the win, the Mountaineers improve to 7-2-2 overall and 4-1-1 in conference play.

A big help in the Mounties home win was five first period goals, which is the most in the first 45 minutes of action this season. Eastern was quick on the attack and its stout defense proved to be too much for the Argos (1-7-1, 1-4-1 CCC) to handle. For the night, EOU finished with 22 shots (12 SOG) compared to just six shots (4 SOG) by Providence.

The offensive barrage started in the fifth minute when Carly Imes ripped a shot to find the back of the net on an assist from Alexandria Segeberg. The score grew to 2-0 in the 12th minute when Lanaeya Botelho scored thanks to a quick assist from Erika Skindlov. The Argos struggled to keep pace with the Mounties as they tallied just five total shots, with three coming on goal.

EOU doubled that with a baker's dozen shots and had eight of them come on net. The Eastern lead grew to 3-0 as Skindlov found another teammate for a score, this time in Chloe Narolski. Just three minutes later, a goal from Lindsay Balkenbush on an assist by Brooke Ford gave EOU a commanding 4-0 advantage. The final first period goal came in the 35th minute for EOU as Narolski found the back of the net a second time on an assist from Yahaira Chavarria-Mondragon to make it 5-0 at the break.

In the second 45 minutes of pitch action, Eastern continued its strong play on defense en route to the shutout holding the Argos to just one shot. The Mounties pushed the already sizable lead to 6-0 in the 69th minute. Emmy Williams tacked on the premium insurance goal thanks to a double assist from Madison Hicks and Tally Connors. The score remained 6-0 as the Mountaineers improved to 4-1 at home on the year.

Both Skindlov and Narolski finished with three shots and two shots on goal. Narolski paced the offense with two goals, while Skindlov tallied a pair of assists. In net, Kennady Flint secured the shutout win and had four saves. For Providence, Brittany Burman and Daniela Waialeale each tallied two shots. Goalkeeper Macee Cook had six saves in the loss.

EOU is back in action Saturday, Oct. 8 (tomorrow), for a match-up against Rocky Mountain College. Kickoff is set for 4 p.m. inside Community Stadium.
