No. 13 EOU Hosts Geoducks and Eagles to Begin the Month of October

LA GRANDE, Ore. - No. 13 Eastern Oregon Volleyball is back home this weekend for a pair of conference matches against two Washington state schools.

First Serve
• The Mountaineers (13-4, 8-1 CCC) are home for the first time since mid-September after playing their last five matches on the road.
• Eastern Oregon finished the month of September with an 8-1 record record with all nine contests being against conference opponents. 
• The Mounties will be home for two games to start in October before hitting the road once again for four-straight matches.
• Going into the weekend, Eastern sits alone at second in the Cascade Collegiate Conference standings.

• Fans can catch all the Mountaineers' home volleyball matches on the Mountie Sports Network at www.eousports.com/watch. Trevor Curl will be on the call this season for play-by-play commentary. Pregame for all home matches begins 15 minutes prior to first serve.
• All games will be Pay-Per-View and can be purchased for $7.95 per game. Fans can also purchase an Eastern Oregon All-Access pass to watch all 2021-22 EOU home sporting events for $100.

Story Lines
• The Mountaineers are currently on a seven-game winning streak.
• At home, EOU is currently 3-1 this year and has won each of its last two match-ups.

• Kaki McLean Morehead reached 325 career wins at EOU after the Mounties 3-1 victory at SOU.

Quick Hits
Last Time Out

• The Mountaineers continued their winning ways last weekend with a pair of four-set road wins over Oregon Tech and Southern Oregon.
• Against the Hustlin' Owls, EOU tailed 19 blocks and held OIT to just a ,138 hitting percentage. Cambree Scott led the way with seven blocks, followed by three other players with five.
• Defense led the way again for the Mounties in a 3-1 win at SOU. Eastern held the Raiders to a .119 clip and had 11 blocks in the win. Jet Taylor paced the defense with six blocks.

Previously Against Evergreen State/Northwest
• The Mountaineers have fared well against both opponents going into the weekend and have done well against both at home.
• Since 2009, EOU is a perfect 22-0 against the Geoducks and is 11-0 at home in the span. Of the 22 wins for the Mounties, 18 have come in straight sets.
• Against Northwest, Eastern is 19-4 against them since 2009. Currently, the Mountaineers have won each of the last four matches against the Eagles.

EOU in the Polls
• EOU checks in at No. 13 in the fourth edition of the NAIA women's volleyball coaches' top-25 poll.
• In the CCC preseason poll, Eastern was picked to win the conference ahead of Corban and Southern Oregon. The Mountaineers tallied eight first place votes and totaled 140 points.
• The next set of NAIA top-25 rankings will be released next Wednesday, Oct. 13

Three's Company
• Of the Mountaineers' 17 matches so far this season, 12 have ended in straight sets.
• EOU has fared well in three-set matches with a 10-2 record, including a current five-game win streak.
• The only 3-0 losses for EOU have come against ranked opponents in Bellevue (Neb.) and Corban.

Home Sweet Home
• Since 2011, EOU has fared well at home in the past decade with a 102-11 record.
• In that span, the Mountaineers have never lost more than two games at home.
• Under the direction of Kaki McLean Morehead, EOU is 134-21 at home.
• The Mountaineers have posted two undefeated seasons at home under Morehead in 2013 and 2016.

Road Warriors
• Dating back to the 2019 regular season, EOU has won each of its last 16 matches.

• Kaki McLean Morehead is just five wins away from 330 for her career.

Scouting the Competition
Evergreen State Geoducks 

• The Geoducks enter the weekend with a 5-5 overall record and are 5-4 in CCC play. Evergreen State is currently on a two-game losing streak.
• Offensively, the Geoducks are hitting an average of 1.96 per match and 11.3 kills per set. They tally an average of 10.6 assists per set  and have 40 service aces on the year.
• Defensively, Evergreen State is allowing opponents to hit .204 against them and they surrender an average of 11.6 kills per set. They average 13.1 digs per set and 2.0 blocks per set.
• Lily Stewart leads the offense with 123 kills and averages 3.24 per set. She is hitting .290 on the year in 10 matches played. She is tied for first with 10 service aces.
• Zoe Shaw is the second leading hitter with 109 kills. She is hitting just .140 but averages 2.79 kills per set. Shaw is tied for first with Stewart in service aces with 10.
• Sierra Wolf facilitates the offense with 361 assists this year. She is averaging 9.26 per set and is third in service aces with seven.
• Stewart is also the defensive leader in blocks with 31.0 total and averages 0.82 per set. She has 24 block assists on the year. 
• Hannah Rongen is second in blocks with 3.0 and has had 11 come on a solo effort. She averages 0.77 per set.
• Sage Burgmeier leads the back row in digs with 154 and averages 4.05 per set. Shaw is second in digs with 123 and averages 3.15 per set.

Northwest Eagles
• The Eagles enter the weekend with just a 5-9 overall record and are one game under .500 in conference play at 4-5. They are currently on a three-game losing streak.
• Offensively, Northwest is hitting .169 per match and averages 10.8 kills per set. They dish out an average of 10.18 assists per set and have 76 service aces this year.
• Defensively, the Eagles are giving up an average of 11.1 kills per set and allow opponents to hit .181 against them. Up front, they are averaging 1.63 blocks per set and 13.8 digs per set in the back row.
• Abi Broussard is the team leader in kills with 159 and averages 3.12 per set. She is hitting .265 this year and also leads the team in service aces with 28.
• Second in kills is Megan Horne with 147 and she averages 3.00 per set. She is hitting .188 for the season and ranks third on the team in service aces with nine.
• Anna Saelens is the leader in assists with 478 and she averages just under per set at 9.56. She also has three service aces on the year.
• Broussard is tied for the team lead in total blocks with 33.0. Also at 33.0 blocks is Azaria Johnson. The duo averages 0.64 blocks per set, respectively.
• Cristina Lorenz leads the back row with 218 digs on the year. She averages 4.36 per set and is second on the team in service aces with four. 

Up Next
• The Mountaineers will begin another road swing, this time with four-straight, following this weekend's matches. EOU begins the road trip at No. 6 Corban on Friday, Oct. 8 followed by Bushnell on Saturday, Oct. 9.
