FOREST GROVE, Ore. - Eastern Oregon Women's Wrestling walked away with five podium finishes on Sunday as the team competed at the Mike Clock Open, hosted by Pacific University. The Mountaineers' five placewinners all finished higher than sixth place, including a pair of runner-up finishes.
Placing in the top-two for the Mountaineers were
Erin Redford at 143 pounds and
Olivia Robinson at 170 pounds. The two grapplers posted a combined record of 5-2 and tallied 31 points combined for the tournament.
Also walking home as a podium finisher for Eastern was
Morgan Shines at 130 pounds (5th),
Kaylee Moore at 136 pounds (4th), and
Dempsi Talkington at 155 pounds (4th).
Redford ultimately suffered her lone loss of the day due to injury at the 3:37 mark of the match. Outside of the defaulted loss, she made quick work of her other three opponents. In her first match, Redford scored a shutout via a 10-0 tech fall to start the day. Redord's next match was a sight of deja vu as she posted another 10-0 tech fall to advance. In the semifinals, she pinned her opponent in 1:33 to punch her ticket to the finals. Injury ultimately kept Redford from finishing her match against Ivy Kraght of Corban, an opponent she defeated just over a week prior at the Mountaineer Open. Nonetheless, Redford finished 3-1 to place in the top-three.
Robinson posted a 2-1 record with her lone loss coming in the first place match. She received a bye in the first round before scoring a 3-0 decision in the quarterfinals to advance. In the semifinal bout, Robinson earned another low scoring victory with a 2-1 decision to improve to 2-0. In the finals, she suffered an 11-0 tech fall to close out the day as the second runner-up for EOU.
Moore went 3-2 to place inside the top-five. After receiving a bye, she scored 10-0 tech fall to advance. She posted a repeat score of 10-0 in the quarterfinals to stay in the championship bracket. Her first loss was a close 9-7 decision in the semifinals. In the consolation bracket, Moore started with a 10-0 tech fall before being pinned in the third place match in a time of 1:24.
Talkington posted an even 2-2 record on the day. Her first win was a 5-1 decision in the quarterfinal round after receiving a bye. She suffered her first loss by way of fall in 1:33 in the semifinals. Talking stayed alive in the bracket with a 10-0 tech fall to advance to the third place match. She then dropped a close 3-1 decision to finish fourth.
Shines went 4-2 on the day with both losses being close decisions. She got going with a 11-0 tech fall in the opening round before dropping a 7-7 decision based on criteria. Shines responded in her first consolation match with another shutout, this time via a 10-0 tech fall. She kept things rolling with a 12-6 decision to get to the consolation semifinals. Shines fell another close bout in a 4-4 decision based on criteria. In the fifth place match, she was declared the winner on injury time.
The Mountaineers will now shift their attention to their home dual against conference foe Simpson University on Friday, Nov. 19. Mat action will begin at 5 p.m. PT inside Quinn Coliseum.
