SALEM, Ore. - No. 12 Eastern Oregon Volleyball wrapped conference tournament play Saturday in the CCC Championship match against No. 8 Corban University. The Mountaineers fell 3-1 (26-24, 16-25, 21-25, 20-25) to the Warriors to finish as the tournament runner-up. With the loss, EOU is now 25-7 on the year.
How it Happened
• The Mountaineers were held to just a .098 attack clip, while Corban (28-2) hit .171 in the win.
• Also helping the Warriors in the win was a 10-6 edge in blocks to go along with 16 more kills than EOU at 56-40.
• The first set required extra points as EOU's lone set win was in the opener by a final of 26-24. EOU raced out to a 5-0 lead but  Corban slowly chipped away and tied the set at 16-all at the midway point.
• Late in the frame, the Warriors clung to a 20-18 lead before a 4-0 run by Eastern made it a 22-20 contest. The two squads traded points and were tied 24-24. EOU then got kills from
Preslee Jensen and
Breanna Shaffer to win by two.
• In the second frame, Corban seized control from the onset and led wire-to-wire to even the match at a 1-1 tie. They jumped ahead 6-2 before EOU managed to get within one at 8-7.
• A mid-set run by Corban pushed the score to 16-9 and never managed to get any closer than five. Eastern got within five at 21-16 before a 4-0 run by the Warriors gave them the 25-16 win.
• The third set was a close battle late but the Warriors were the victor with the 25-21 victory to go up 2-1. They had a solid start, racing out to a 5-0 lead before EOU scored.
• Eastern battled back to tie the frame at 7-7 and from then on the two teams traded points. Midway through the set, Corban used a quick 4-0 run to go ahead 19-14.Â
• The Mountaineers rallied late in the set and got within two at 21-19, but the Warriors answered, holding them to just two more points to hold on for the four-point win.
• Like the third set, it was another close battle in the fourth but once again Corban held on for the win. EOU looked to force a gift set but a late surge but Corban prevented such efforts.
• Early on it was a 1-2 point battle and the two teams were locked at a 9-all tie. The Warriors created some separation at the midway point going up 15-11.
• Eastern cut the Corban lead a pair of times at 15-12 and 17-14 but a quick 3-0 surge by the Warriors made it a 20-14 contest.Â
• The Mountaineers looked to rally one final time and cut the score to 23-20 but it was not enough as the Warriors scored back-to-back points to win the CCC Tournament Title.
