Mountaineers Complete Regular Season Sweep of Beacons in Four-Set Win

EUGENE, Ore. - No. 13 Eastern Oregon Volleyball picked up a four-set road win Saturday evening over Bushnell University (25-22, 25-21, 12-25, 25-20). With the win, the Mountaineers improve to 16-5 overall and are 11-2 in conference play.

How it Happened
• Neither hit the ball all too well as the Mountaineers held a .169-.152 edge in hitting percentage. Bushnell (14-3, 10-3 CCC) posted double figure kills in each set, while EOU did so in just three sets.
• Defensively, the Mountaineers had the edge in blocks at 10-9, but the Beacons led every other statistical category, including kills at a 50-43 edge.
• In the first frame, EOU hit .237 and held the Beacons to a .137 clip to go ahead 1-0. Bushnell kept things close through the majority of the set as EOU held a 13-11 lead midway through.
• The Beacons battled back to tie the set at 16-all and eventually grabbed the lead at 17-16. They stayed in front by one point before Eastern tied it up at 19-19.
• Eastern then scored back-to-back points to go up and forced a Bushnell timeout. The Beacons were unable to respond and dropped the opening frame, 25-22.
• In the second set, EOU hit a whopping .306 and limited the Beacons to a .075 attack clip to grab a 2-0 lead. The set started off close but Eastern grabbed a 10-5 lead to force a Beacons timeout.
• The Mountaineers then found a rhythm on offense and outscored the Beacons 9-4 and held a commanding 19-9 lead late in the set. The lead did not matter though as the Beacons rallied with a 11-1 run to tie the frame at 20-all.
• EOU responded to the Bushnell rally and held them to just one point the rest of the set. EOU's defensive response was enough to secure the 25-21 win and go up by two sets.
• The third set belonged to Bushnell who held the Mountaineers to just four kills en route to a 25-12 win. A fast start by the beacons was key as they raced out to a 13-4 advantage and never looked back.
• The Mountaineers had no answer to the Beacons quick start and never managed to get within nine points the rest of the frame. EOU was held to a negative hitting percentage at -.074 in the loss.
• Eastern answered in the fourth set with the win to avoid going to a fifth frame for the second straight night.
• The Mounties raced out to a 5-0 lead to force a Bushnell timeout. The break made little difference as the lead for EOU grew to 11-2. Despite the sizable lead, the Beacons once again battled back midway through the set.
• The Beacons slowly chipped away at the EOU lead and got within two, 16-14, to force a timeout. EOU scored three straight out of the breather to go ahead 19-14 and force another Beacons timeout.
• Bushnell looked to make one last push but EOU got ahead 24-18 and allowed just two more points before securing the 25-20 win.
