LA GRANDE, Ore. - No. 13 Eastern Oregon Mountaineers Volleyball pushed its win streak to nine in a row Saturday night with a four-set home victory over Northwest University (25-17, 18-25, 25-17, 25-13). With the win, EOU improves to 15-4 overall and is now 10-1 in conference play.
How it Happened
• Helping the Mountaineers in the win was a .320 hitting percentage, including two sets where they hit over .500, while their defense held Northwest (6-10, 5-6 CCC) to a .134 hitting percentage.
• Both squads finished with eight service aces but the front row for Eastern was dominant racking up 13 total blocks, while Northwest had just three.Â
• In the first set, the Mountaineers hit .591 with 14 kills to grab the match's first lead at 1-0. Eastern raced out to a 6-3 lead early on before the Eagles battled back to tie the match 7-all. The two squads then traded points until the midway point of the set.
• EOU grabbed a 16-13 lead and forced the Eagles to call timeout. Out of the break, Northwest got within one at 17-16 before the Mounties scored four straight to force another timeout. The Eagles mustered just one more point as EOU scored four straight again to win, 25-17.
• The Eagles controlled the majority of the second set to tie things up at 1-1. A 7-3 start had them in control and the lead grew to 11-6 before EOU established some rhythm to get back in the match.
• The Mountaineers got back into the match at the midway point as an 8-1 run gave them a 14-12 lead. Despite the surge though, the two teams continued to trade points before a quick surge late by Northwest made the difference.
• The set was tied at 19-all  and it was anyone's set to take. The Eagles then closed out the frame with a 6-0 run to walk away with the 25-19 win.
• The third set once again got started in the Eagles favor as they jumped ahead 7-3 and forced an EOU timeout. The Mounties battled back to get within two, 11-9, before a 5-0 run gave them a 14-11 lead.
• The Eagles managed just six more points the rest of the set as the Mountaineers never relinquished the lead and went back ahead by one set once again, 2-1.
• The Mountaineers completely controlled the fourth and final set and it was thanks to a quick start. EOU got up 5-0 before the Eagles burned a timeout, but it made little difference. EOU's lead grew to 13-4 which led to another timeout by the Eagles.
• The rest of the set was a cruise for Eastern as the team led by over eight points the rest of the set before securing the 12-point win.Â
