Women’s Wrestling Falls to Top-Ranked Opponents

LA GRANDE, Ore. – The No. 13 Eastern Oregon women's wrestling team fell to a pair of top-5 teams on Saturday night at the Mountaineer Duals in Quinn Coliseum.

The Mountaineers were hindered by four forfeits in each dual, adding to 20 free points for both No. 5 Providence and No. 4 Southern Oregon. The Argos won 28-11, while SOU earned the 40-4 victory.

The Mounties got a forfeit win at 130 pounds against Providence to get five points. Senior Jessica DeHart earned a 6-0 decision win on Senior Night at 116 pounds to give EOU three points. Sophomore Erin Redford won the team's other match, a 6-2 decision over Maria Elena Enriquez.

EOU won one match against the top-ranked Raiders, with Macy Higa winning a 10-6 decision over Glory Konecny. Redford lost by just a 9-6 decision and junior Dempsi Talkington fell at 155 pounds in a close 3-0 match.

Prior to the dual, EOU honored its three seniors in DeHart, Cassidy Freeman and Amber Pair. The Mounties will next get ready for the WCWA Championships on Feb. 7 and 8 in Atlanta, Georgia.
