EOU Women's Soccer Earns Program's Highest NAIA Ranking at No. 7

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Eastern Oregon women's soccer team has achieved the highest ranking in program history, ranked No. 7 in the NAIA Preseason Coaches' Top-25 Poll, the NAIA announced Wednesday.

The Mountaineers finished 2018 with their highest ranking in program history, and have continued to climb the polls by jumping seven spots since kicking off their 2019 campaign.

They are currently 3-0-1, remaining undefeated in their tough preseason match ups. EOU began their season on the road in Nebraska facing then No. 12 Hastings College and No. 9 Midland, earning a win and double overtime draw, respectively. The team then returned home to take on then No.10 Embry Riddle and No. 24 Hope International earning two impressive victories 2-0 and 6-0.

Head Coach Jake Plocher had this to say on the recent poll, "I am very pleased with the way the ladies have performed so far. We still have a long way to go, and we will continue to work hard to reach our full potential that I know we are capable of."

Fellow CCC competitors Northwest University entered the preseason poll at No. 15 and have since dropped out of the top 25. Rivals Southern Oregon had a good start to their season (3-2) with wins over top-25 opponents and were recognized for their play, grabbing the No. 23 spot after being unranked in the previous poll.

Overall, EOU finished with 384 points in the recent poll, just 14 points behind No. 6 Lindsey Wilson (Ky.). Southern Oregon had 149 points in the poll.

The reigning back to back Cascade Collegiate Conference Champions will look to win their third straight title, kicking off their 2019 conference season in Eugene, Ore. September 20 against Northwest Christian. Eastern Oregon will begin conference play in strong form, allowing only one goal in their last four games, outscoring opponents 10-1.
