Eastern Oregon Slips in Doubleheader at No. 16 Corban

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

SALEM, Ore. – Eastern Oregon softball team slips in first two games of the series against No. 16 Corban, 12-1, 1-0.

GAME 1 | (RV) Eastern Oregon 1 vs. No. 16 Corban 12

The Mountaineers (2-14, 1-4 CCC) slip in game one of the series against Corban University. The Blue and Gold struggled trying to find their bats, only tallying a total of two hits during the contest which came from senior Rayne Spencer who finished 1-for-3 with a double and freshman Haley Ebner who finished 1-for-3.

The only run that came from the Mountaineers was in the fourth inning. With bases loaded, senior Hannah Rothwell came to the plate looking to put the ball into play. Rothwell did just that forcing a fielders choice, which allowed senior Madison Barr to score from third.

From there on it was all Corban, who scored seven unanswered runs in the fifth and sixth innings. EOU was held scoreless over the next two innings, forcing the game to end after six innings due to the NAIA run-rule.

Corban recorded 13 total hits led by right fielder Madison Wyllie who went 3-for-3 with 3 RBI's and a HR.

GAME 2 | (RV) Eastern Oregon 0 vs. No. 16 Corban 1

The Mountaineers in game two had redeemed themselves holding No.16 Corban to six scoreless innings with the help from junior Ashton Kazmierski who pitched 4 scoreless innings with only allowing four hits. Senior Lauren Spencer would replace Kazmierski in the fifth inning continuing what she had started. Spencer would go on to pitch three innings allowing only one hit and one earned run.

The only run of the game came in the top of seventh when Corban's Kaylee Buhrkuhl flied out to center field, scoring Megan Rybar with one out in the inning. Eastern Oregon was then held scoreless in the next half inning, handing EOU their second series loss of the season.

The Blue and Gold had tallied six hits during the game all-starting with freshman Haley Ebner who led EOU at the plate finishing 2-for-3. Senior Hannah Rothwell had went 1-for-3, junior Ashley Kelly went 1-for-2 with a walk, senior Shevan Defreitas went 1-for-1 with a double, and then junior Payton Pocklington finished 1-for-2 in the game.

The Mountaineers will look to avoid the sweep in the final double-header of the series tomorrow at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. in Salem Oregon.
