Both EOU Cross Country Teams Qualify for National Meet

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – As expected, after finishing third and fourth at the CCC Championships, respectively, the Eastern Oregon women's and men's cross country teams earned at large berths to the NAIA Championships Nov. 22 in Vancouver, Washington.
 
The Mountaineer women moved up one spot in the final NAIA Top-25 Poll of the season to No. 11 overall after claiming third at the CCC Championships, only behind No. 6 College of Idaho and No. 9 Southern Oregon.
 
The men took fourth place at the conference meet, dropping a couple spots to No. 25 overall. The Mounties finished only behind top ranked programs in No. 2 College of Idaho, No. 5 Southern Oregon and No. 17 Oregon Tech.
 
This marks the first time the women have qualified as a team since 2012 when they finished 13th overall. It is the fourth year in a row the team will sent at least one runner, with Michelle Herbes competing in last year and Rachel Roelle in 2016 and 2017.
 
For the men, it marks 32 consecutive years that they have sent at least one runner to the national meet, a streak that began back in 1987.
 
EOU had three all-conference performances the previous weekend at the CCC Championships. The women had two All-CCC runners in Herbes, who took second, and junior Megan Boals who placed 10th. For the men, program record holder Alex Navarro placed third.
 
The final race of the season, the NAIA Championships, will take place on Nov. 22 in Vancouver, Washington.
