Cross Country Teams Continue to Climb NAIA Rankings

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – After last racing two weekends ago at the Cascade Conference Preview Meet, and finishing each with second place finishes, the Eastern Oregon men's and women's cross country teams continue to climb the NAIA Top-25 rankings.
 
The men moved up one spot from No. 19 to No. 18 after only finishing behind then-No. 2 ranked Southern Oregon, and well ahead of Oregon Tech, who is receiving votes in the poll
 
Senior Alex Navarro led the team at the CCC Preview taking second place and earning first place points. Navarro was able to drop his time by just under 20 seconds to 25:58.8 from the previous meet.
 
The women's team has not quite cracked the top-25, but is pushing the envelope each week with impressive performances. The Mountaineer women also finished in second place at the CCC Preview, outrunning then-No. 6 Southern Oregon.
 
Sophomore Michelle Herbes took fourth overall to lead the women in 18:20.2, just over a minute better than her time at the EOU Invitational.
 
Overall, the men are receiving 253 points while the women are at 81, the 28th most in the NAIA. The women's team was previously receiving 58 points.
 
Both teams are back in action this Saturday at the competitive Williamette Charles Bowles Invitational in Salem, Oregon.
