Mountaineers Tame Lions in Road Sweep

PORTLAND, Ore. – The No. 21 Eastern Oregon volleyball team arrived in Portland with a purpose on Friday night, easily defeating Multnomah in straight sets in Cascade Collegiate Conference action.

The Mountaineers (7-4, 2-1 CCC) earned their second-straight sweep in CCC play (25-14, 25-11, 25-15), with each set victory by at least 10 points.

The defense was tough all night on the Lions, recording 13 total blocks to Multnomah's two. The Mounties started the match quickly with seven blocks in the first set.

Junior Allyson Crisp was dominant at the net, posting two solo blocks and five block assists to lead EOU. Junior Taylor Tibbetts added five block assists to match Crisp, while fellow junior Hailee Ackerman had four assisted blocks.

The tough net presence led to a -.045 hitting percentage for the Lions, who finished with 28 attack errors to 23 kills. EOU, on the other hand, hit a steady .253 with 30 kills to just eight errors.

Offensively, the Mounties spread the wealth around with Ackerman leading the team with seven kills. Junior Megan Bunn had five while Crisp and freshman Kaci Cox each had four.

Sophomore Aspen Christiansen led the back line with 16 digs. Senior Sarah Carpenter had 12 assists to lead the setters.

The Blue and Gold continue CCC play on Saturday, visiting Warner Pacific at 5 p.m. in Portland.
