No. 21 Volleyball Cruises in Sweep of Warner Pacific

PORTLAND, Ore. – The No. 21 Eastern Oregon volleyball team made quick work of its opponents for the second-straight night, sweeping Warner Pacific on Saturday in Cascade Collegiate Conference play.
 
The Mountaineers (8-4, 3-1 CCC) ran their winning streak up to three games after dominating all phases on Saturday night in the sweep (25-18, 25-12, 25-23). EOU hit .239 from the floor for the match while holding the Knights to a low .040 hitting percentage.
 
Up front, the Mounties tallied another nine total blocks, led by six block assists from junior Allyson Crisp. Freshmen Cambree Scott and Kaci Cox each added three total blocks.
 
Junior Hailee Ackerman continued her strong start to the season, pacing the attack with 10 kills. She also had an impressive five service aces in the match. Fellow junior Megan Bunn added seven kills on an efficient .400 hitting percentage.
 
The Mountaineers' best set of the night came in the second, when they defeated the Knights 25-12. In the set, EOU started with an 8-0 run before Warner Pacific's first point of the set. Then with the score 12-3, the Mounties rolled off another nine-straight points to go ahead 21-3.
 
The Blue and Gold played a much tighter third set that went down to the final point. After leading 9-5, WPU ran off five-straight points to take a 10-9 advantage. Late in the set with the teams tied at 23 apiece, the Mounties earned the set and match victory after two Knight errors.
 
In the back row, sophomore Aspen Christiansen finished with 10 digs while Bunn and sophomore Madison Pilon each had six. Pilon paced the Mounties with 13 assists followed by senior Sarah Carpenter with 12.
 
The Mountaineers return home next week, hosting Evergreen on Sept. 14 at 7 p.m. They then welcome Northwest to Quinn Coliseum on Sept. 15 at 5 p.m.
