Mountaineers Head to Oklahoma City for NAIA Championships Opening Round

LA GRANDE, Ore. – The Mountaineers will be flying to Oklahoma.

After earning the Cascade Collegiate Conference's second automatic qualifier to nationals, the Eastern Oregon softball team discovered its destination for the NAIA Softball Championships Opening Round on Tuesday afternoon.
 
The Mounties (26-22) will head to the Oklahoma City bracket, hosted by Oklahoma City University. The tournament begins on Monday, May 14, as EOU will be faced with a tough test in the opening game against No. 2-ranked OCU (48-7) at 1 p.m. Central time.

Other teams in the four-team double-elimination bracket include No. 16-ranked Grand View (Iowa) (46-8) and receiving votes Tabor (Kan.) (29-19).
 
Opponent Information
 
Oklahoma City University Stars
The Stars enter the NAIA Championships with a 48-7 record, which includes a 23-1 mark at home. They won all four games of the Sooner Athletic Conference tournament by a combined score of 39-1.
 
OCU ranks No. 2 in the NAIA Softball Final Coaches' Poll with 468 votes, moving up from its previous No. 5 ranking.
 
Grand View Vikings
With a 46-8 record, the Vikings won both the regular season and tournament championships out of the Heart of America Athletic Conference. The team ranks No. 16 in the NAIA and will travel from Des Moines, Iowa.
 
Tabor College Bluejays
The Bluejays come into the tournament with a 28-18 record and are the co-Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference regular season champions while winning the tournament last weekend.
 
Tabor is receiving votes in the NAIA Softball Final Coaches' Poll with six votes. The school resides in Hillsboro, Kansas.
