Women’s Soccer Headed to Indiana, Face No. 15 Grace in NAIA Opener

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Eastern Oregon women's soccer team discovered its NAIA Championships Opening Round opponent and destination Monday morning, as they will head to Winona Lake, Indiana for a game against Grace College.

The Mountaineers (15-2-2) earned the conference's first automatic qualifier to nationals by tying atop the CCC with Carroll. However, EOU snagged the auto bid by virtue of tiebreakers. The team then finished as the runner-up at the conference tournament, falling 1-0 to Northwest in the finals.

Grace earned the No. 15-seed after receiving an at-large bid to nationals. The Lancers enter the tournament with an 18-3 record and were also the runner-up at their own conference tournament (Crossroads League), falling to No.2-ranked Spring Arbor.

Two of the Lancers' three losses this season have come against Spring Arbor, while their first loss came during the preseason at No. 8-ranked Embry Riddle. The Mountaineers went on the road to start the year, defeating the same Embry-Riddle team 1-0 on Aug. 24.

The opening round match will take place this Saturday, Nov. 17 at a to-be-determined time. The winner of the game will advance to NAIA Championships Final Site in Orange Beach, Alabama.

This is the second-straight trip to nationals for EOU and the third in the last four years. Last season, the Mounties fell 1-0 on the road at Westmont. The Lancers earned their second trip to nationals in program history, previously qualifying for the tournament in 2015 where they went 1-1.
