No. 13 Mounties Roll to 10th Straight Win in Sweep of OIT

KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. – The No. 13 Mountaineer volleyball team started October the same way they left off September, with another win, defeating Oregon Tech (9-10, 4-8 CCC) on Friday night in Cascade Collegiate Conference play. In sweeping OIT, the Mountaineers now have a record of 10-1 in conference and 15-4 overall and have won 10-straight matches.

A strong performance in the sweep (27-25, 25-15, 25-21), the Mountaineers tallied a .266 hitting percentage with almost all hitters swinging over .200. Junior outside hitter Megan Bunn had a team high of 14 kills, while junior right side Taylor Tibbetts had eight kills, and junior middle blocker Allyson Crisp had seven.

In addition to the kills, the EOU front row had nine blocks to OIT's two. A solid defense, which included 66 total digs with 20 coming from sophomore libero Kiley McMurtrey, allowed EOU to terminate long rallies with kills. Proving to be a powerhouse both offensively and defensively, the Mountaineers came out with their second win over OIT this season, sweeping them in their house at Danny Miles Court.

In the first set it seemed like it could be either teams game. Both teams came out point for point with the first 20 points going back and forth. With the score tied 25-25, EOU came through with the final two points to win 27-25 and gain momentum for the rest of the match.

The second set was the strongest for the Mountaineers as they kept the Owls to 15 points throughout the entire match. Rolling through the first 10 points, EOU did not let anything touch the ground.

The third set proved to be a crucial one for the Mounties as they crept closer to 25 poiont with the owls trailing behind. An impressive offensive night by the Mountaineers forced the Owls into too many unforced errors on their side of the net.

Sophomore setter Madison Pilon posted 22 assists while junior Sarah Carpenter almost hit her record of four aces. Tibbetts led the way with five block assists and two solo blocks.

For the Owls, Chase Bohman and Camryn Johnson lead the team with 10 kills while Lindsey Sampson had 18 digs.

EOU continues their away weekend with No. 10 Southern Oregon in Ashland, Saturday at 5:00 p.m.
