EOU Volleyball Lights Up Beacons, Wins 6th Straight with Sweep

LA GRANDE, Ore. – The Eastern Oregon volleyball team swept Northwest Christian Saturday night in Cascade Collegiate Conference action.

The No. 13 Mountaineers (21-5, 16-2 CCC) are winners of six-straight contests, and improve to 9-1 at home this season. They are coming off an emotional win last night against Corban that went five sets, but they came out focused and ready for action.

Northwest Christian (11-14, 4-12 CCC) dropped a tough match in Caldwell last night against C of I, and it didn't get any easier Saturday night against the Mountaineers.

After a dramatic finish Friday night against Corban, the Mountaineers were able to cruise past the Beacons for their 21st victory of 2018. Freshman Jet Taylor was tremendously efficient in this one, recording eight kills and hit an admirable .462 percent. Taylor Tibbetts led the team in overall kills with 10. Outside hitters Megan Bunn and Hailee Ackerman were also heavily involved with eight and seven kills, respectively.

Libero Kiley McMurtrey was extremely active as always, and tallied 17 digs in the contest. Alongside McMurtrey, Bunn recorded 11 digs on top of her eight kills.

Madison Pilon led all players with 25 assists, followed by Sarah Carpenter with nine. The two setters combined for 55 assists last night against the Warriors, and continued their consistent play Saturday night.

EOU had a great night serving as well, posting 11 aces throughout the match. Pilon and Ackerman combined for seven service aces.

The Mountaineers will play Thursday, Nov. 1 at College Place, Washington against Walla Walla before their last regular season contest of the season. The final match will take place at Quinn Coliseum, November 2 at 7 p.m. against College of Idaho, which will also be senior day. We will honor
