ASHLAND, Ore. – The EOU women's wrestling team concluded its season on the road Saturday evening and despite losing 36-9 against Southern Oregon, seven Mountaineers have qualified for the Women's Collegiate Wrestling Association (WCWA) Nationals.
In the 101 weight class, freshman
Lisa Megargee dropped what was a very close match to SOU's Jade Martin (8-4 Dec.), but head coach
Dustyn Azure is seeing constant improvement from the freshman. "Lisa is continuing to learn every week and will be a force at the national tournament this year and three years to follow," stated Azure.
Coming up victorious with a 6-0 decision in the 116 weight class was freshman
Viannei Perez, who gave EOU a 9-3 lead after the previous match the Mounties won by due to a forfeit.
"Viannei won her match and did a great job of controlling the pace of her match and opening up with her offensive attacks," said Azure.
Freshman
Amber Pair went up one weight class at 123 pounds but it did not fare well as she lost due to a technical fall, 10-0. Freshman
Sara Angelo at 130 pounds also suffered a technical fall defeat.
The next five weight classes were forfeited by EOU, to round out the final score for SOU, 36-9.
