EOU Women’s Soccer Set for CCC Quarterfinal Matchup With Northwest

2015 WOMEN'S SOCCER CHAMPIONSHIP CENTRAL PAGE

LA GRANDE, Ore. – Although it certainly has been a season of firsts for the Eastern Oregon University women's soccer team, the Mountaineers will be making their third appearance all-time in the 2015 Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) Tournament.

On Wednesday, third-seeded EOU will square off against last year's regular season champion in the Eagles of Northwest. Kickoff in Springfield, Ore., is set for 5 p.m.

The Opponent
Sixth-seeded Northwest enters this week's contest with a 7-9-2 record overall, including a 6-4-1 mark in CCC play.

Despite suffering a three-game losing skid in mid-October, the Eagles have tallied three shutout victories in their last four games.

On Senior Day in Kirkland, Wash., Whitney Weaver scored the golden goal in the 97th minute to lead the Eagles past Northwest Christian, 1-0.

Kylie Garrison has registered a team-high five goals this season, while Gabriela de Andrade leads the team in points (12) thanks to four goals and four assists.

In the box, Lauren Patefield has started all but two games for the Eagles, mustering a 1.61 goals-against average and 87 saves.

As a team, Northwest is just ninth in the CCC in shots per game (11.50), and the Eagles lead the league in yellow cards with 17.

Last Meeting
EOU toppled then-ranked No. 20 Northwest, 3-0, on Sept. 19 in La Grande.

Freshman forward Zoe Anderson netted two goals in the first half for the Mountaineers, while senior forward Crystal Schuder tacked on an insurance score in the 61st minute to put the Eagles away. In goal, junior Jessica Parker notched two saves en route to the shutout.

EOU's Last Time Out
The Navy and Gold capped its record-breaking regular season with a 2-1 triumph over Warner Pacific on Oct. 31 in Portland, Ore.

Both Schuder and freshman forward Alexandria Cuaresma recorded goals to give EOU an early 2-0 lead, and the Mountaineers held on for their 15th win of the 2015 campaign.

Lucky No. 100
In EOU's last victory of the regular season against Warner Pacific, head women's soccer coach Justin Wagar earned his 100th career win. He now boasts an all-time record of 100-77-13.

Wagar is in his first year as the head coach for the Navy and Gold. Prior to joining EOU, he coached six seasons at New Mexico Highlands. He has also coached at Eastern Washington, Brigham Young University-Hawaii, and Utah Valley.
