Box Score 2 EUGENE, Ore. – The Eastern Oregon University softball team was swept by Northwest Christian University on Saturday afternoon in Cascade Collegiate Conference action. The Beacons used a strong sixth inning to take game one, 11-6, and finished the sweep with a 5-2 win over the Mountaineers in game two.
Game One – In game one, the Beacons started off fast as they scored two runs on three hits. Randi Kostner got the Beacons on the board first with an RBI single to center field. Two batters later, Jill Suratt singled home the second run of the game for the Beacons to take a 2-0 lead after the first inning.
Eastern Oregon tied the game up in the top of the third inning.
Andrea Roeder led off the inning with a walk and then was sacrificed over to second by
Mariebeth Watanabe.
JoElla Smith followed with a two run home run to left field to tie the game at 2-2.
The game did not stay tied for long as Northwest Christian broke the tie in the bottom of the third inning. With runners on first and second, Gabby Stover stole second base and Kostner scored on a throwing error by the Mountaineers catcher putting the Beacons back on top 3-2.
The Beacons continued to add to its lead in the bottom of the fourth inning. With Parker Bonife on second base and one out, Breanne Johnson doubled down the left field line to score Bonife and to extend its lead to 4-2.
The Mountaineers stormed back in the top of the sixth inning. With one out,
Stephanie Maestretti singled up the middle to start the comeback for EOU.
Cassie Wendt reached base after being hit by a pitch. After an EOU strikeout,
Gracie Flyg singled to shortstop to load the bases.
Georgianna Kelly reached on an error by the Beacons shortstop, which scored two runs to tie the game at 4-4.
Nicole Redd followed with a triple through the left side which scored two more runs and put EOU on top 6-4.
The lead was shorted lived for EOU as Northwest Christian answered back with seven runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. Addy Hoskins tied the game with a two run single and Suratt put the Beacons back on top with a three run double. After a Mountaineer pitching change, Bonife hit a two run home run to put the Beacons on top 11-6.
The Mountaineers tried to rally in the top of the sixth inning as
JoElla Smith led off the inning with a single up the middle.
Katie Martell followed with a walk to put two runners on base. However, that was all the runners EOU would get in the inning as the next three Mountaineers were retired and EOU dropped game one, 11-6.

Gracie Flyg led the Mountaineers with two hits in the contest.
Game Two – Northwest Christian's offense clicked in the bottom of the first inning of game two. With Laynee Bevans on second base, Suratt picked up her fifth RBI of the day with an RBI single up the middle. Bonife followed with her second home run of the game to extend the Beacons lead to 3-0 after the first inning.
The game remained 3-0 until the top of the third inning. In the top of the third, Flyg led off with a single and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Redd. Flyg advanced to third on a Kelly groundout and with two outs and a runner on third, Watanabe singled up the middle to put the Mountaineers on the board. After the top of the third inning the Beacons lead, 3-1.
Eastern Oregon continued to chip away at the Beacons lead and in the top of the fourth inning EOU trimmed the lead down to one run, 3-2. Martell doubled to right field to lead off the inning. With one out, Wendt singled to left center, which advanced Martell to third base.
Brittnee Carman-Rice drove home Martell on a single to put the Mountaineers down, 3-2.
However, that would be as close as EOU would get in the game as Northwest Christian held the Mountaineers to two hits the rest of the game and Bonife hit her third home run of the day to put EOU down 5-2 after the sixth inning.
Carman-Rice led off the seventh with a hit but the next three EOU batters were retired and EOU fell to Northwest Christian, 5-2, in game two.

Eastern Oregon returns to action on Tuesday, April, 22 when they travel to Caldwell, Idaho to face College of Idaho. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m. MT.
