Box Score 2 SALEM, Ore. – The Eastern Oregon University softball team was swept by Corban University in a Cascade Collegiate Conference doubleheader on Friday afternoon. The Warriors defeated the Mountaineers, 9-1 (5 inn.) in game one and 4-1, in game two.
Game One – The Warriors jumped out to a quick start against the Mountaineers. Annie Owen led off the bottom of the first inning with a home run putting Corban on top, 1-0. Corban was not done as they loaded the bases for McCayla Hoffman. Hoffman drew a bases loaded walk to extend the Warriors lead to 2-0. Aubrene Blas followed with a two run single to left center putting Corban on top 4-0. Hoffman came around to score on a double by Kylie Durre putting the Warriors on top 5-0 after the first inning.
Corban continued to add to its lead in the bottom of the second inning. Kyrianna Sorensen reached on an EOU error. Sorenson stole second base and scored on a double to left field by Breonna Bejaran extending Corban's lead to 6-0. Lounette Jackson followed with a double to left field scoring Bejaran growing Corban's lead to 7-0, which would be the score after two innings of play.
Eastern Oregon scored its first run of the game in the top of the fourth inning.
Katie Martell singled to shortstop and then was pinch ran for by
Nicole Redd.
Stephanie Maestretti followed with her second walk of the game and was pinch ran for by
Taylor Smith. A groundout to second base advanced the runners to second and third with one out.
Brittnee Carman-Rice followed with an RBI groundout to first base to score the first run for EOU. However, EOU left a runner on third base and going to the bottom of the fourth EOU trailed 7-1.
In the bottom of the fourth inning, Corban answered back. Shelby Mauermann reached on a bunt single. She proceeded to steal second base and with Mauermann on second base, Sorensen recorded an RBI double to right field putting Corban on top 8-1. After Sorensen's double, EOU made a pitching change and Courtney Castronovo welcomed EOU's new pitcher with an RBI single extending the Warrior lead to 9-1.
The Mountaineers could not get anything going in the top of the fifth inning as Jessica Slate retired EOU in order and EOU fell, 9-1, in five innings in game one. Slate picked up the win for the Warriors as she only allowed two hits and one run in five innings.
Game Two – After neither team threatened in the first inning it looked as if the Mountaineers would break the scoreless tie in the top of the second inning.
Cassie Wendt walked and advanced to second on a wild pitch. However, was far as she got as the next three Mountaineers were retired by Jessica Holsinger.
In the bottom of the third inning, EOU pitcher,
Lily Smith, ran into a little trouble. Smith hit Aubrene Blas to lead off the inning and Kyile Durre advanced to her to second on a bunt but Blas tried to go to third and was thrown out. After reaching base on a bunt, Durre was caught stealing for the second out of the inning. It looked as if EOU would get out of the inning with no harm, however, Smith hit her second batter of the inning and Mauermann followed with a walk to put two runners on base. Sorensen came through with an RBI single to left field to break the scoreless tie and put the Warriors on top, 1-0.
Eastern Oregon looked to threaten in the top of the fifth inning as
Andrea Roeder, collected the Mountaineers third hit of the game, with a triple to right center. With one out and Roeder on third, Jessica Holsinger threw a wild pitch, which allowed Roeder to score and tie the game at 1-1. That is all EOU scored and going to the bottom of the fifth inning; the game was tied at 1-1.
The Warriors answered back in the bottom of the fifth inning as Rae Dorcas, who was pinch hitting for Blas, drew a walk. After Smith retired Durre, Owen singled to right field to put two runners on base. Both runners advanced a base on a passed ball to put runners on second and third. Mauermann broke the tie with a sacrifice fly to right field which scored Dorcas. On the play, Owen came around to score after a throwing error by EOU and after five innings of play Corban led EOU, 3-1.
Corban added to its lead in the bottom of the sixth inning. Castronovo double down the left field line to put a runner on base for Corban. Bejaran laid down a sacrifice bunt to advance Castronovo to third base. She came around to score on a single by Jackson extending the Warriors lead to 4-1, which the Warriors held going to the top of the seventh inning.
Eastern Oregon could not get anything going in the top of the seventh inning as Danielle Horne retired the last six batters in order for EOU and Eastern Oregon dropped game two, 4-1.

Gracie Flyg and
Andrea Roeder all collected one hit to lead the Mountaineers.
Lily Smith tossed five innings, allowing three runs (2 earned) and allowing four hits, picks up the loss for EOU.
The Mountaineers return to action tomorrow at 11 a.m. when they travel to Eugene, Ore. to face Northwest Christian.
