Click here No. 9Eastern Oregon Volleyball tied their highest ranking ever; coming in at No. 9, in the sixth edition of the Tachikara-NAIA Volleyball Coaches' Top 25 Poll. The Mountaineers were as high as No. 9 last season. EOU is five points out of eighth.
Last WeekendThe Mountaineers extended its winning streak to five matches last week with two sweeps of Northwest and Evergreen. EOU powered past the Eagles of Northwest University, 3-0 (25-22, 25-16, 25-18), on Friday evening at Quinn Coliseum. The Mountaineers recorded 43 kills on the evening and were led by
Casey Loper's double-double, 15 kills and 12 digs. EOU held the Eagles to 21 kills and a hitting percentage of .050 on the night. On Saturday, EOU recorded their fifth straight sweep on Saturday afternoon, as they swept Evergreen, 25-15, 25-19, 25-8. Loper led the Mountaineers with a game-high 14 kills.
Isabelle Statkus and
Amanda Miller followed with eight and seven, respectively.
Rachelle Chamberlain dished out a match-high 33 assists.
Last Time Against C of IEOU and College of Idaho have met once this season already. On Sept. 9 the Mountaineers made the trip to Caldwell, Idaho and defeated the Yotes in a thrilling five set match. This was the Mountaineers first win against College of Idaho in their gym since 1996.
Casey Loper led the Mountaineers with 19 kills on the evening.
Kendra De Hoog followed with 16 kills and
Amanda Miller and
Emily Nay recorded 11 apiece.
Rachelle Chamberlain dished out 56 assists on the night.
Jessalyn Smith recorded a match high 40 digs.
Top 10The Mountaineers are ranked in the top 10 in the NAIA in assists per set and kills per set. On the season, EOU is averaging 12.9 assists per set and 13.9 kills per set. This is sixth and seventh best in the nation. Eastern Oregon also leads the CCC in those statistical categories.
Hitting PercentageEOU is leading the CCC in hitting percentage on the season. As a team the Mountaineers are hitting .243. Their highest hitting percentage game of the season came on Saturday, Oct. 11 against Evergreen. The Mountaineers hit .360 on the game.
CCC TournamentThe top six teams in the regular season standings will earn spots in the conference's postseason tournament, which begins Nov. 11. The regular season champion and the runner-up will earn a berth in the tournament semifinals against the winner of the quarterfinals, which matches the No. 3 and 6 seeds and the 4 and 5 seeds. Quarterfinals will be held on campus sites while the regular season champion will host the semifinals and finals. The CCC's tournament champion will earn the conference's automatic bid to the NAIA National Championships.
What's Up NextThe Mountaineers hit the road next weekend, Oct. 24 and 25 when they head to Portland, Ore. to face Warner Pacific and Concordia.
