Box Score LA GRANDE, Ore. – The College of Idaho Yotes used a late second half push to pull away and defeat Eastern Oregon University on Friday evening at Quinn Coliseum. The Yotes outscored the Mountaineers 27-16 in the final nine minutes to come away with a 75-67 victory over EOU.
Demetrius Perkins of College of Idaho led all scorers with 22 points on 7-of-13 shooting.
Trevor Phillips led the Mountaineers with 14 points.
Eastern Oregon raced out to an early 10-2 lead over the Yotes in the first three minutes of the contest. After taking an eight point lead, the Yotes came back and held the Mountaineers scoreless for the next three minutes of the game, while scoring nine unanswered points to take an 11-10 lead.
College of Idaho extended its lead when they went on a 14-5 run to pull ahead by ten points, 25-15. With the Yotes ahead by 10 points, EOU started to mount a late first half comeback and cut the Yotes lead to four points, 27-23.
EOU continued to battle back against the College of Idaho and with two seconds to go before halftime,
Kevin Attila hit a layup to tie the game at 33-33 to go into the half.
The Yotes wasted little time to pull ahead in the second half as College of Idaho scored the first seven points of the second half while holding EOU scoreless for the first two minutes of the half. However, EOU continued to battle and tied the game at 44-44 with 14:42 left in the game.
After each team traded leads, Joe Vaz hit a three point jumper to tie the game at 49-49 with 12:29 to go in the game. Vaz's three pointer got the offense clicking in the second half and the Yotes went on a 12-3 run to take a 61-52 lead with 5:49 to go in the contest.
The Mountaineers continued to battle but did not get closer than five points, for the remainder of the game. College of Idaho came away with a 75-67 victory over Eastern Oregon.
The Mountaineers finished the game shooting 25 of 61 (41 %) from the field and 7 of 19 (37 %) from downtown. The Yotes would finish shooting 25 of 59 (42 %) from the field and 6 of 20 ( 30 %) from behind the arc.
Eastern will return to play next Friday night, when they host Northwest Christian at 7:30 p.m. The Yotes return to action next weekend when they host Corban at 7:30 p.m. MT.
