EOU Volleyball Wins Ninth Straight

SALEM, Ore. – No. 14 Eastern Oregon University Volleyball won its ninth straight match on Saturday evening with a, 3-0 (25-13, 25-16, 25-15) sweep of Corban University. The sweep extends the Mountaineers set win streak to 20 straight.

Eastern Oregon was led by Casey Loper's game-high 12 kills. Loper recorded a hitting percentage of .440 for the evening. Stefani Sorensen followed with nine kills. Karly Stack dished out a game-high 22 assists.

"We played consistently tonight and improved on the aspects we needed to," said head coach Kaki Morehead. "Our hitters were smart and every effective."

EOU offense started clicking early against Corban as the Mountaineers scored the first six points of the match. During that stretch Katie Keeney recorded three straight aces for EOU. Eastern Oregon continued to slowly pull away and after a Stefani Sorensen kill the Mountaineers found themselves ahead 11-4.

Corban started to make a little run and after a Miah Smith kill the Warriors found themselves down 14-8. EOU responded by scoring the next six points to extend the lead to 20-8. Corban continued to battle but EOU was too much in set one and a Sorensen kill ended set one with EOU taking it 25-13.

EOU scored the first four points in set two to take an early 4-0 lead before the Warriors got onto the board. After a service error by Taylor Stewart made the set 4-1, EOU continued to rattle off points and extended its lead to 9-2.

With EOU leading 13-8, the Mountaineers went on a 5-2 run to extend its lead to 18-10. EOU grew its lead to as many as 12 points, 22-10, before Corban made a little run. The Warriors trimmed the lead to eight, 23-15, before EOU put the set away. EOU claimed set 2, 25-16, after a blocking error was called on Corban's Jenny Harman.

Katie Keeney started set three with an ace to put EOU up 1-0 but the Warriors would not go down without a fight. Corban held the lead early and set three and extended its lead to four points. With Corban ahead, 11-7, EOU made its move.

Eastern Oregon went on a 13-2 run to take a commanding 21-13 lead over Corban. The Mountaineers used a team attack. Corban tried to make it close as it but EOU was too much down the stretch and took set three, 25-15, for the 3-0 sweep.

EOU returns to action on Sept. 27 when they host Oregon Tech at Quinn Coliseum. The match begins at 7 p.m. PT.
