Mountaineers Sweep Beacons

La Grande, Ore. – Eastern Oregon softball team swept Northwest Christian  6-1 and 9-4 this afternoon at Peggy Anderson Field.
 
In the first game the Mountaineers held the Beacons(5-21, 3-13 CCC) scoreless for 6 straight innings and only allowed them  3 hits and 1 run.

EOU (14-25, 5-17 CCC) would get on the scoreboard for the first time in the bottom of the second from a single by Rachell Hatzell that brought Gracie Flyg home.

In the third inning Sarah Jackson singled to left which eventually scored Katie Martell on a fielding error.
 
The Mountaineers would score the majority of their runs in the fifth inning as Jackson would start the run by singling to left field bringing Cassie Wendt home. EOU would score 3 more runs in the fifth giving them a 6-0 lead.  The Mountaineers would give up their only run of the game in the top of the 7th as they cruised to a 6-1 victory.
 
EOU's Jackson went 3 for 3 at the plate with 1 RBI while teammate Rachel Hatzell went 2 for 2 with 1 RBI.
 
Northwest Christian's Addy Hoskins went 1 for 3 at the plate with 1 RBI. Dani Gehrke went 1 for 3 at the plate.
 
In the bottom of the first inning of the second game the Mountaineers' Wendt homered with one on giving the Mountaineers a 2-0 lead. The Beacons would answer in the second inning as Hoskins bunted up the middle bringing Gehrke home.
 
The Mountaineers had a huge third inning scoring 3 runs followed by 1 run in the fourth and 2 in the fifth while holding the Beacons scoreless in those innings. .
 
Trailing 2-7 in the 6th inning, the Beacons' Randi Kostner tripled to left center scoring 2 runs with two outs. The next batter, Parker Bonife, would be struck out swinging.
 
In the bottom of the 6th, the Mountaineers would score once off of a single by Kelly that brought Flyg home. EOU would hold off the Beacons in the top of the 7th to give them a 9-4 victory.
 
Alex Hillmick went 1 for 3 at the plate with 3 RBI's while Wendt was 2 for 4 at the plate with 2 RBI's.  Mariebeth Watanabe was 3 for 4 with1 RBI.
 
Northwest Christian's Kostner was 2 for 4 at the plate with 2 RBI's, teammate Hoskins went 1 for 3 with 1 RBI.
 
The Mountaineers will be in action on Tuesday April 16 as they host The College of Idaho. Game time is scheduled for 3 p.m. Live stats will be available at EOUSports.com.
