Corban Sweeps Eastern

La Grande, Ore. - The Eastern Oregon softball team had a tough time offensively this afternoon as Corban University swept the Mountaineers, 11-2 and 15-3.

In the first game, Corban (17-6, 7-1 CCC) got their offense going early and often, scoring all of their eleven runs in the first 2 innings.  Eastern's ( 8-12, 1-7 CCC) Alex Hillmick scored in the top of the second on a throwing error by Corban for the Mountaineers' first run. Hillmick would score again in the 4th when Georgianna Kelly grounded out to second to bring her home from third.

Hillmick led the Mountaineers at the plate going 2 for 2 with 2 RBI's. Kelly finished with one RBI. 

The Eagles were led by Brittany Chestnut going 2 for 4 at the plate with 2 RBI's while teammate Stephanie Nippert went 2 for 3 at the plate with 1 RBI. 

In game 2, the Mountaineers opened with back to back homeruns by Maribeth Watanabe and Sarah Jackson but that was not enough as they would only score one other run and allow Corban to score 15 runs. 

Jackson led the Mountaineers going 2 for 3 at the plate which included a homerun. Kelly went 1 for 2 from the plate with 1 RBI. 

Corban's Nippert went 3 for 5 from the plate with 5 RBI's while teammate Chynna Sandhop went 2 for 4 from the plate with 2 RBI's.

The Mountaineers will be in action again next weekend as they travel to Kirkland, Wash. and Portland, Ore. to take on Northwest and Concordia.
