Eastern Picks Up First Conference WIn

La Grande, Ore. – Eastern Oregon University (8-10, 1-5 CCC) softball team picked up their first conference win  this afternoon splitting with Northwest Christian University 11-10 and 7-1.
 
In the first game NCU (5-9, 3-3 CCC) came out strong with two runs by a Parker Bonife homerun, scoring Laynee Beavens.  The Beacons would score five runs in the bottom of the second before EOU answered back in the third inning. Eastern's Sarah Jackson started a two-out-rally with a single to the shortstop as teammate Alex Hillmick reached on an error.  Katie Martell would then double to left field scoring Jackson and Hillmick.  

Both teams would battle back and forth to enter the top of the seventh 10-3, Northwest Christian leading.  The Beacons then held off a late game surge, seven runs in the seventh inning by Eastern, to come away with the victory.

Jackson led the Mountaineers at the plate going 3 for 5 with 1 RBI. Sophomore Cassie Wendt went 1 for 5 at the plate, hitting a grand slam in the top of the 7th finishing with 4 RBI's for the Mountaineers while teammate Martell went 2 for 4 at the plate with 2 RBI's
 
NCU's Beavens was perfect at the plate going 5 for 5. Bonife went 4 for 4 with 3 RBI's
 
In game two, EOU only gave up one run in the sixth. Both teams would remain scoreless until the Mountaineers' 3 runs in the fourth.  Eastern continued to cross the plate, scoring 2 runs in the fifth and 3 in the seventh as they cruised to a 7-1 victory.
 
Jackson led the Mountaineers once again with 5 RBI's going 3 for 4 at the plate. Hillmick went 1 for 4 at the plate with 1 RBI.
 
NCU's Gabby Stover went 1 for 3 at the plate with 1 RBI while teammate Randi Kostner went 1 for 3 at the plate as well/  
 
The Mountaineers will be in action again tomorrow morning as they travel to Salem to take on Corban. Game time is scheduled for 11 a.m.
