LA GRANDE, Ore. – The No. 7 Oregon Tech softball team grabbed a pair of road wins at Eastern Oregon University Friday, 5-0 and 8-7.



The Owls (32-7, 15-4 Cascade Collegiate Conference) ended a three-game skid behind a no-hitter performance by Taylor Schmidt in the first game. Oregon Tech then rallied to an 8-7 eight-inning victory in the second game.



In Game 1, Schmidt improved to 18-4 on the season with the no-hitter. She struck out one Mountaineer, and walked two in the complete-game performance. Schmidt also went 3-for-4 at the plate, with two RBI and scoring once.



Ashleigh Larson also went 3-for-4, scoring twice. Janelle Cromie and Jess Plummer each went 2-for-4, Cromie had two RBI. Plummer scored twice.



After leaving four runners on base in the first two innings, Tech scored its first run in the top of the third inning. Schmidt singled to right field, bringing in Larson. Sara Coates then had a sacrifice bunt that brought in Plummer.



Oregon Tech put the game away in the bottom of the fifth inning adding three runs. Schmidt brought in Larson with a single to right field. Cromie then doubled to left field, driving in Schmidt and Plummer.



The Owls left 10 runners on base in the game, while Eastern stranded two. The Mountaineers committed two errors in the game, and OIT had zero. Alex Hillmick was credited with the loss, and is now 6-8 on the season.



In the second game, Eastern's Kayla Anderson stymied the Tech batters early. She held the Owls to two over the first five innings, before allowing the first OIT run in the fifth inning.



The Mountaineers (10-20, 6-16) opened the scoring in the bottom of the first inning when Georgianna Kelly walked in after a bases-loaded walk.



In the bottom the third inning, Cassie Wendt then drove a ball over the left field fence for the Mountaineers, scoring Kelly. Lacey Price then brought in Sarah Jackson with a single.



Tech would get its first run in the top of the sixth as Schmidt singled to center field, bringing in Shauna Collins. The next batter, Coates hit almost an identical single to center field that drove in Kayde Schaefer.



With two outs in the bottom of the sixth, Hillmick hit a triple to center field that brought in Emily Anderson and Hanna Findley. Hillmick then scored on a wild pitch, making the count 7-2 entering the final inning.



In the top of the seventh with no outs, Larson doubled to left field, bringing in Amber Knight and Melissa Logan. With two outs and two strikes, Coates singled to right field, but after an error three runs crossed the plate for Tech to tie the game.



After retiring the Mountaineers in order in the bottom of the seventh, Tech scored the go-ahead run in the top of the eighth. Plummer reached on an error, and Collins crossed home plate for the Owls first lead in the game.



Collins was 2-for-4, with a double, and scored three times. Coates went 2-for-4 with two RBI, while Larson was 1-for-4 with two RBI.



Schmidt improved to 19-4, going 7.1 innings allowing eight hits and six runs. She struck out one batter and walked four.



Wendt and Jackson both went 2-for-4 with two RBI. Kelly went 1-for-2, scoring twice. Anderson threw the complete game, allowing nine hits. She struck out 12 Owls, and walked four.



Tech committed one error, while Eastern had two. The Owls left seven runners on base, while EOU left eight.



Oregon Tech travels to The College of Idaho Saturday for an 11 a.m. Mountain Time start. The Mountaineers host Southern Oregon Saturday at 11 a.m. It's senior day at Peggy Anderson Field and EOU will honor Anderson, Suzie Espinoza and Ashli Hughes-Hayden. Admission to the doubleheader is free, but fans are asked to leave their pets at home.
