EUGENE, Ore. – The Eastern Oregon University softball team earned a split at Northwest Christian University Saturday. The Mountaineers won the first game, 4-0, but fell in Game 2, 3-1.
Alex Hillmick tossed a two-hitting shutout in the first game for Eastern (10-17, 6-13 Cascade Collegiate Conference). The sophomore went 2-for-3 with two RBI.
Stephanie Maestretti hit a solo home run for EOU's lone score in Game 2. More to come …
Eastern Oregon won the first game, 4-0, as Hillmick threw a complete-game, and improved to 6-6 this season. Hillmick struck out a pair of Beacon batters.

Sarah Jackson, and Ashli Hughes each had two hits for the Mountaineers in the victory.
NCU got a pair of fifth-inning singles from Jazzmyne Villaruel and Ally Mittleider, but failed to score a run. Twice the Beacons loaded the bases with less than two outs, but on both occasions Eastern thwarted any chance of scoring.
Kalyssa Koontz took the loss for the Beacons, allowing three earned runs in 5.1 innings of work.
The second game was a pitching duel as Northwest Christian's Brooke Davis and EOU's
Kayla Anderson took a 0-0 score into the bottom of the sixth inning. The Beacons broke through first, scoring three runs, all with two outs.
Gabby Stover led off the bottom of the sixth inning with a double and later scored on a double by Amanda Reiss. Reiss then scored on an RBI double from Mittleider. Megan McKinney drove in Mittleider with a single to complete the scoring.
Maestretti hit her solo home run in the top of the seventh inning. Gaby Stover and Chelsea Hannon collected two hits for the Beacons (7-27, 3-12) in the win. Wendt hit 2-for-3 for the Mountaineers to finish the day with a 4-for-6 performance.
Eastern Oregon completed its final road trip of the regular season, and returns to Peggy Anderson Field for the final weekend of the regular season. The Mountaineers begin three doubleheaders in three days, Friday against No. 5 Oregon Tech at 2 p.m. Admission to the doubleheader is free, but fans are asked to leave pets at home.
