PORTLAND, Ore. – The Eastern Oregon University softball team dropped a pair of close results at Concordia University Friday, 5-4 in nine innings and 7-6. Both victories were walk-off hits for the Cavaliers.

Concordia (18-16, 9-5 Cascade Collegiate Conference) won the first game 5-4 on a walk-off double from Sam Genskay in the ninth inning, then took the second game 7-6 behind a two-run rally in the bottom of the seventh. Jordyn Brown sent a single up the middle that scored Kate Santos.

Concordia never trailed in the first game, but had to fight off a comeback-minded Eastern Oregon team in order to get the win.

The Cavs twice took the lead in the game, only to have Eastern Oregon immediately match their scores in the subsequent half inning.

EOU's comebacks pushed the game into extra innings at 4-4, but the Cavs found the winning rally before the Mountaineers.

Overall, Concordia had no trouble recording hits in the game, besting the Mountaineers 18-9. The Cavs left the bases loaded without scoring a run three different times in the game, however, as the team left 15 total runners on base.

Individually, Genskay finished 4-for-6 for the Cavs with two runs batted in and a run scored, while Jennifer Lutton and Allison Gunter each went 4-for-5.

For EOU, Georgianna Kelly and Sarah Jackson each went 2-for-4, while Kelly also scored a run and recorded an RBI.

Ashley Suter, meanwhile, picked up the win for the Cavs, pitching all nine innings while striking out 10. On the flip side, Kayla Anderson received the loss for EOU after pitching all 8.2 innings for her team.

Unlike the first game, Concordia twice had to come back in the second game, with the second comeback giving the Cavs their second walk-off win of the day.

Individually, Tobey Varney went 3-for-4 for the Cavs with three runs scored. Besides her, Genskay and Kate Santos each went 2-for-4 with two runs scored in the game, while Santos also recorded three runs batted in. In addition, Mary Lugar went 2-for-3 for the Cavaliers with an RBI.

For EOU (9-17, 5-13), Emily Anderson, Cassie Wendt and Alex Hillmick all went 2-for-4 in the game.

Brown, meanwhile, received the win after throwing a complete game for the Cavs, giving up six runs, though only two were earned. Hillmick went all 6.1 innings for EOU, but received the loss.

Eastern Oregon travels to Eugene to play Northwest Christian Saturday in a doubleheader. The first game begins at 11 a.m.
