ASHLAND, Ore. – The Eastern Oregon University softball team picked up a 2-1 win at Southern Oregon University Saturday. Game 2 was postponed until Sunday.
On a rainy afternoon, Eastern's
Alex Hillmick took a one-hitter into the seventh inning and limited SOU to one run on three total hits to pick up the win. The sophomore allowed three hits and one earned run in the complete game performance. Jordyn Kurtz earned the loss, yielding two runs on nine hits with eight strikeouts.
Emily Anderson finished with three hits in four at bats for EOU (6-9, 2-5 Cascade Collegiate Conference), and
Georgianna Kelly added a pair of hits. Jessica Flores finished with two of SOU's three hits.
The Mountaineers took a 1-0 lead in the top of the fifth. Anderson doubled to left and came around to score on
Cassie Wendt's single up the middle. Eastern Oregon's second run came in the sixth, as Kelly stroked an RBI single to left with two runners on and two outs, scoring Findley from second base.
Southern Oregon (13-10, 3-4) came up with a pair of hits in the seventh inning after picking up only one base hit through the first six frames. Melissa Corn led off with a single to center, and one out later Flores knocked a double to left center that brought Corn home from first to make it a one run game. The Raiders had the tying run in scoring position with one out, but Hillmick picked up the final two outs to clinch the win for the Mountaineers.
Game 2 never began, and will start at 11 a.m., Sunday, at University Field. The Mountaineers will then head to Medford to face Oregon Tech in a doubleheader beginning at 2:30 p.m.
