Mountaineers Take Game from Nationally-Ranked DSU

CALDWELL, Idaho – The Eastern Oregon University softball team split a doubleheader against Dickinson State University Friday at The College of Idaho.

The Mountaineers (4-4) played DSU, which is two spots out of the national top 25, on a neutral field in the non-conference matchups. It was the first meetings all-time between the schools.

In Game 1, Lacey Price went 2-for-3 from the plate, hitting a triple. Alex Hillmick had a double. The Mountaineers scored the first four runs of the game and led 4-0 after the fourth inning before taking the 4-1 win. Emily Anderson, Cassie Wendt and Sarah Jackson each drove in runs for EOU.

The Mountaineers finished with seven hits and no errors. EOU left six runners on base through the first three innings. DSU had three hits and three errors. The Hawks left six base runners stranded.

In the second game, Dickinson State scored four runs in the second inning to pull away from Eastern early. The Mountaineers responded with a pair of runs in the third inning off an RBI from Wendt. She finished 2-of-4 in the game. Sydney Carpenter was 2-for-3 with two singles.

Eastern Oregon had six hits, no errors, and left six runners on base, including three in the final inning. The Hawks had 13 hits, no errors, and left five runners stranded.

The Mountaineers have a pair of non-counting doubleheaders on March 9-10 in La Grande against Treasure Valley Community College and Blue Mountain Community College. EOU then has its first regular season game at home this season against University of British Columbia on March 11.
