No. 9 Ranked Eastern Men Defeat Carroll

Helena, Mont. - The Eastern Oregon University men's basketball team traveled to Helena, Mont. to participate in the Carroll College Classic this weekend. In tonight's match up Eastern (8-0, 0-0 CCC) took on the host team Carroll College fighting saints (0-4) and came away with the win, 88-84.
 
Junior transfer Tony Eackles Jr. would lead Eastern in scoring with 21 points and 5 rebounds. Teammates Craig Tucker and Anthony Brown would contribute with 16 and 14 points respectively. 
 
In the first half EOU lead by as much as 10. Carroll would work relentlessly to try and close the gap the rest of the half coming as close as two. The Saints shot 58% from the field and 45% from three in the first half.
 
Eastern would go into the half up 53-44. The Mountaineers would shot 58% from the field in the first half and 60% from downtown, led by Eackles Jr. with 15 points. Carroll was led by Ben Cutler with 13 points. EOU outrebounded Carroll in the first half 17-12.
 
An unselfish Mountaineer team would continue to hold the lead in the second half, recording 14 assists as a team. The Saints wouldn't go away as they continued to put points on the board pulling within four points late in the game. EOU would hold Carroll off and have 5 players finish double digits in scoring.
 
As a team the Mountaineers would shot 53% (14-26) from behind the arc, compared to the Saints 42% (9-21).
 
Carrolls' Nick Jones would lead all scorers with 23 points, and Dennis Mikelonis would contribute with 19 points and 6 rebounds.
