LA GRANDE, Ore. – The Eastern Oregon University volleyball team stunned No. 14 Southern Oregon University Friday, 3-0.

In one of the biggest wins in the program's history, the Mountaineers (6-6, 5-0 Cascade Collegiate Conference) stay atop of the conference standings with The College of Idaho. Southern Oregon, Eastern, and C of I all entered the night as the lone teams undefeated in conference play.

Eastern's Rebecca Haight finished with a match-high 15 kills. Stefani Sorenson added 11 kills. Emily Sampson recorded 21 assists. The senior has had at least 20 assists in six matches this season. Kaitlyn Duncan, the CCC Libero of the Week, had a match-high 12 digs.

The Mountaineers' 450th all-time victory was one of its most historic. Eastern has only beaten Southern Oregon four times out of 25 matches since 2000. Three of those victories came under Kaki Morehead. The Raiders had previously won five straight matches over EOU dating back to a 3-2 win on Oct. 17, 2008.

Eastern Oregon controlled the first set, never giving up the lead, and only being tied once at 4-4. The Mountaineers' took a 15-10 lead after an attack error by Southern. EOU would have its largest lead moments later, 18-12, after an SOU service error. Eastern would go on to win Game 1, 25-20.

The second set featured seven ties and five lead changes. After trailing 7-5 due to a Liz Madden kill, The Mountaineers rallied to take a 9-7 lead and then have the largest lead of the match at 13-9. A Sorenson kill made the score 20-17, in favor of Eastern, but SOU (6-3, 3-1) rallied to even the score at 20 with an attack error by EOU. The Mountaineers would score five of the next eight points to take the set, 25-23.

Game 3 was a battle that featured 17 ties and 10 lead changes. No lead was larger than two in the final set. A Haley Fikso kill gave Southern a 21-19 lead, but Eastern would tie the score at 21, and hold off the Raiders to win the game, 28-26.

Southern Oregon's Sarah Holgen has been named CCC Hitter of the Week all four of the first four weeks of the season. She finished with a team-high 10 kills Friday. Angela Spieker had 14 assists. Renee Yomtob and Becky Johnstone each added 11 digs. SOU finished with an attack percentage of .106, while Eastern had a .148 attack percentage.

The Raiders travel to No. 8 College of Idaho Saturday. The 'Yotes (8-1, 5-0) have won five straight matches, including a sweep over Oregon Tech Friday. OIT (6-4, 1-3) plays at Eastern Oregon Saturday.
