Boxers Knock Out Eastern Oregon

FOREST GROVE, Ore. – The Eastern Oregon University softball team fell in a non-conference matchup at Pacific University Thursday, 10-3.

The Boxers (18-8) were led by a pair of players who each finished with three RBI. Chelsey Chamberlain and Lauren Tuey each had three RBI in four at bats. Madison Collura went 3-for-4 and Chamberlain was 2-of-4.

Eastern fell to 2-4 this season when it scores before its opponent. The Mountaineers held Pacific scoreless through the first three innings, and took a 3-0 lead after the third inning. EOU took a 1-0 lead after McKenzie Desin scored when she was brought home after a walk when the bases were loaded. Wailana Buchanan then drove in two runs with an RBI single.

The Boxers had their first hit in the bottom of the third inning and added their first run in the fourth. Ashley Billingsley reached on a fielder's choice bringing in Randee Layosa to make the score 3-1. In the bottom of the fifth inning, Pacific's Jenna Stevens singled to center field, and then the next batter, Chelsey Chamberlain, hit a home run over the center field wall.

Pacific took control of the game in the next inning. Stephanie Vanoudenhaeg singled through the left side, bringing in Jordan Mittelsdorf. Collura then scored on a wild pitch, and Vanoudenhaeg was brought in on a single up the middle. Tuey then hit a home run driving in Rylee Parke and Chamberlain. A Mittelsdorf double then scored Billingsley.

Eastern Oregon finished the game with one hit through the final four innings. The Mountaineers had three hits in the game, while Pacific had 12. Chamberlain (5-0) was credited with the win. She threw two innings, allowing no hits and striking out three EOU batters. Jennifer McDonnell (2-9) threw a complete game and struck out two batters and walked two. Each team left seven runners on base.

The Mountaineers (4-16) face Mt. Hood Community College in a non-counting contest this evening, before facing Concordia University Saturday in Portland. Thursday's game against Pacific was a make-up contest of a game that was postponed from the opening day original date. The first game was won by the Boxers 6-1, before the second game was postponed after a weather delay.
